I have started to notice the rise in highly edited photographs, it seems that many people on the site have the same opinion as me on this topic. Not meaning to be rude to any of the recent highly rated photographs that this relates to, but this a photography site. I think it is unfair that to the people who do not have the computer skills to do this editing, that they have a smaller chance of doing well. The photographs which have been highly edited often have great appeal. I on many occasions have given such images very high scores and have regreted it afterwards. I was just interested on other people's points of view on this topic. Is there anyway of restricting this sort of editing without a total lock down? I find the advanced editing rules very useful just to change small unwanted effects, eg. cloning out dust specks. I think there needs to be a compromise between advanced and basic editing.

This is just a point of view, and I hope I have not offended anyone.

T.

Please could you take this to one of the numerous other threads on the same topic. We don't need yet another one.

Read the can of worms that has been opened by this very subject on the threads about "Remove My Tutorials" and "DQ Judges" and "Strike..." to name a few. There are several heated debates going on right now about digital art vs. photography, and it makes for very interesting reading. I always wonder who's going to say what next.

Just for my 2 cents worth...
I feel like novices like me don't have a snowball's chance to ever live up to the digital image trickery I've seen on this site. I joined to learn how to take better digital pictures...not to learn how to make a picture into something it never was and deceive all who have seen it.
