Hi all,

Motivated by this thread, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about PPChallenge. In case you never got to play with the site while it was operating, the idea is photo processing side challenge just for DPC users. Everyone gets the same source image, and we vote on the entries in a format very similar to DPC.

I'd like to hear:
- Did you use it? Did you like it? (Or do you like the idea, if you didn't use it).
- What would you change, add, or remove?
- Would you lean toward a more full-featured site (forum, stats, profile, etc), or something very simple and targetted, keeping discussion here?

I may or may not find time to update the site and get it running again, but I'd like to gauge the interest.

Cheers,
-Jeff

I never go to use it but I've always liked the idea. I would think the main discussions should stay here but profiles are always cool. maybe just a smaller specific forum section such as current challenge and a tips and tricks section.

Well, I actually got a ribbon in one of the PP Challenges, so I really miss it! :)

Yes, I did use it, both in terms of submitting to the challenges and voting. (Never got round to submitting one of my own shots for editing)
I'm a simple person and liked it as it was. Only thing maybe allow more participants (I think 20 was the max)
No, as above, it was simple and worked as it was.

Really, I popped in there often and very much enjoyed looking at the different ways people processed the same image. I actually, believe it or not, learned a fair bit about post processing from playing there.

ETA. Thanks for all your efforts in keeping it going as long as you did.

Now that I am really getting into that aspect of the photography. I would love to go and use this site if it ever was to come back online. Please let me know if you plan on re-vamping it as I would definately be a member on that site .

I used it a couple of times. I also submitted a couple of mundane images which never got chosen.

I would be interested in participating again.

Any chance of allowing a larger number to participate in each challenge?

I checked in a few times and participated once. My PP skills are better now and it might be fun to have another go at it.

If you just want some feedback on your own PP, without the competetive aspect, we have a running Before And After Posting Thread here. Anyone is welcome to post, though I think we want you to list the PP steps, either in the thread or the edited photo.

I would love to see it come back, I learned a ton from the site. And actually won a few ribbons.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy... bring it back!!!!

I actually liked it quite a bit. I participated when I felt moved by a challenge.

I would like to see the number of entrants be bumped up to 30 though. Also, more than one challenge at a time (2?) where you could only enter one or the other...

I would like to see a tips and tricks forum, and maybe a HELP ME forum LOL!!!

Profiles, I would only use them for informational purposes, not like a full on profile here, just something that holds your previous challenge entries and a bit of information about yourself and maybe a profile pic.

How's that for feedback? :)

Never used it, but heard about it, and would LOVE to see it come back!

I had a blast with PPC. I do miss it and wish it would come back.

what about having a challenge on this DPC site reight here with that technique? email everyone the same RAW file at the beginning of the week, and let everyone enter the same pic after editing it... would that work?

That would work as a side challenge but how would the voting be handled? Were you thinking by the current voting system and a special challenge posted just like the other ones only there'd be a signup thread?

hmmm... well, voting would be the same, and I guess in the description of the challenge, there could be a link that you could click on to download the RAW file... that should work right?

Another question would be what to do with entries that aren't of the image that's supposed to be edited? Of course, voters may take care of that but we all know that not all voters actually read the challenge description.

well, just like the "include one grape and two ducks" challenges... they will be officially DQ'd

That would work.

I like the idea of allowing more entries. And RAW files. :D

I'd love to do this. We tried it in my photo club with mixed results, but I think the key is having the right kind of original, that allow lots of different interpratations.

Not sure RAW would work since some folks do not use it and there are different formats for those that do. I just use the Raw Converter supplied with my Sony. I am guessing it does not read Nikon or Canon files :)

I'd love to see it back. I didn't have time to participate in the final months, but I enjoyed it when I did. It was a great resource.

=) It's good to hear that the general feeling is that people would like to see it return.

Yes, that was one of the difficulties - finding images to edit that will produce interesting and varied results. And the reason for the 20 person limit was: how many of the same image does a voter really want to look at?

Another issue was participation - sometimes there'd be as few as 10-15 votes on a image. But maybe if we amp this thread enough it could get there. =)

The main thing is that I need to code it in a more stable way. As-is the site requires some hand-holding just to keep it running. I couldn't even easily bring-up the old version to sit as an archive to view.

Anyway, I'll let you know as soon ass I have plans to work on it. Maybe getting my new camera later this month will motivate me. =)

Yay!! Good news! If you don't mind my asking, what platform are you programming it in? My husband may be able to help you, he is a systems analyst and programmer. He is lansa.

So, any decisions on resurrecting the site? I participated for a while but a new baby sidelined me for a while as well. I would love to see it come back.
