After waiting for a very long time for A900, I hold the camera last week. By my surprise, I found the grip was bigger than the grip of Minolta Dynax 7, my current film camera. As a result barely I was able to grab it in my hand, although my fingers were not able to hold it completely. Unfortunately the Sony Manufacturer DID NOT put the hand strap, otherwise I could hold that grip with hand wrist.
Now, I have two choices:
1) Sell all of my Minolta System and go for Canon EOS 5D, or
2) wait till somebody in Sony RECOGNIZE that not many photographers have a big hands, then try to bring the new models with a smaller grip similar to Minolta Dynax 7.

NOW, I wonder has anybody has the same feeling about the grip of this new camera?
Also I wonder if anybody has a solution for my problem about holding the grip?

Please help me and write your feeling or suggestions.

kombizz, a DISAPPOINTED photographer!!!

My KM 7D is on on the fritz and I have been debating making the move to another brand, but will first wait until I can demo the a900. I doubt the size of the case will be a issue for me, but I am more concerned about the build and the output quality. I love my lens collection - also one's I've had since my film days - but Sony is not Minolta and I cant' say that I have nearly the same the confidence in the a900 as I did with Minolta's products. I am considering the forthcoming 5D MKII and the D700 and will compare the value of the a900 and all of my lenses against those models and a complement of their lenses.

First and foremost, the camera should be comfortable in use, and if that isn't then case then you should strongly consider finding one that does fit. Again, I certainly understand your dilemma. Good luck.

you could always buy a hand strap for it. I forget where my family got me mine from but I love it...although I can't keep my index finger under it when actually snapping the photo but I love mine.

B & H has many here

Mine is very similar to this one and not as expensive as I thought.

I would go into a local camera store and try the potential cameras on for size and functionality before ordering another one online and possibly running into the same situation. Just don't tell the sales associate there that you're just "trying them out" with no intention of buying from them. :-)

I always have the opposite problem. I have large hands, and many of today's cameras feel small and hard to hold in my hands.

Hope you find a solution to your problem.

ETA: Corrected spelling

It's too bad that your 7D is acting up, I suppose that puts pressure to move forward quickly, but...
There is, IMO, really too little comparative information on the IQ of the 5DII and A900. Luminous Landscape has a comparison between the A900 and the 1DsIII, and the A900 fared pretty decently but there was no high-ISO comparison. Prior to making a decision, if I were you I'd wait until after the 5DII ships, and better comparison data is available, including RAW files from the 5DII.
