Okay, I was all set to rant because of a general feeling of ineptitude. :) My last entry (the hot wheels truck) sucked, and I knew it, and the grade sucked. I'm fine with getting a crap score when I enter a crap picture. The only comments that caught me off guard were that it was a boring shot, and while I can look at it and say, yeah, it really is, I wasn't thinking of taking a creative shot. I was just trying to take a shot. I guess I had forgotten that we're supposed to be creative, too. The more I thought on it, the more my lack of creativy annoyed me. :)

Anyway, I decided to be more creative this week and took what I consider to be a much improved shot, and far more creative. The first comments all came back as not understanding what I was trying to accomplish, though. And that was when I decided to rant. I assumed my efforts at being cute were just not well done enough.

BUT!

I hit refresh, spotted a new comment, and someone gets it! Funny how even though my grade is somehow worse than the most awful shot I took last week, the fact that one person got it somehow thrills me. Okay. That's my rant. :D

Isn't it great when you receive a comment that shows that at least one person, if no one else, really, really gets what you were trying to do, and more, not only gets it but really appreciates it?
That's what it's all about!
Sure, it would be wonderful to take an image that LOTS of people appreciated, enough to win a ribbon, but I feel so happy when I receive a comment revealing that one person loved an image I created, I think I'd be bouncing from the ceiling if it seemed the majority of viewers felt like that about something of mine!
:o)

It IS great when 1 person gets it -- restores my energy to keep trying. My Silence shot was this type -- 1 person got that it was a MUM (a flower, yes, but Mum as in "Mum's the word") and I felt vindicated -- wanted to PM all those that didn't get it and tell them that they were just goofy LOL (didn't of course!)

Kavita, that's it completely. Well said. :) I love this site because there are so many good photographers here and it really helps me learn. Plus, a new challenge each week helps keep me practicing and thinking. But there's always the human side, and the chance of getting down if the grades are low and the comments reflect that - whether self-imposed or not. Ah well. I've got a smile for the day that ain't going away. :)

of course it's thrilling! the idea is to take a picture that you love, and if somebody else gets it, even just one person, always makes you feel just great!
