strength is a wide theme.. this caused many interpretations and the meaning of strength lost its value.. does strength really mean power?? then this causes even more confusion..

i know if the theme was brief and easy it would sound boring. but now it's difficult to vote.. cause it's becoming very 'subjective', not very fair isn't it?

I found many beautiful pictures in this challenge it's true, but most of them don't really relate to the subject.

I don't mean to imply faith is bad, just that for me personally, it does not mean strength. I understand how many people conclude it does based on your comments. My logic doesn't follow that route, however. /shrug

I knew a woman 4'10" and 90 Lbs.
No husband.
No full time job.
Raised 7 little children on her own by cleaning neighbors houses and knitting clothes !
She was phisically very weak but strongest woman {in her spirit) I ever seen!

I didn't enter it but had an idea along the lines you are talking about, so you can figure I won't consider your entry as not meeting the challenge. Glad to see you back, Good Luck.

I think I'm going to stop trying to think outside the box, and just go for what DPCers want.


How sad is that statement!! Why even enter a challenge if all your doing is trying to please everyone??? Where's the learning in that? I'm not much better, my entries haven't done overly well in any challenge, but I still enjoy testing myself. If I get to the point that I'm only going to take shots that I think will make these voters happy, then it's time to move on because I've lost touch with why I ever picked up a camera in the first place.
Don't let this site get the better of you!! Continue to endulge yourself in what YOU consider to be good photography and nevermind what the critics have to say!

I have to agree with daveit. Take a good hard look at the top ten places in the challenges; there always seems to be at least one or two that are not obvious, and yet they score well. By taking the less obvious route you are challenging yourself even more than the challenge is. It speaks well of you that you can take the non-obvious and attempt to make an obviously good photo of it. It just takes more to do so.

This is the first challenge I have entered, and I am doing better than I expected considering the photo I submitted is more Power than Strength. It started at 5.5 and dropped quickly to 4.5, since then it has been yo-yoing across the 5.0 mark. Now at 81 votes I am sitting at 5.0, just as I was at 73 votes. Three comments, none have anything negative to say at all. This is hands down the best photo I have taken, but I did not expect it to do well. All in all, a very serendipitous challenge so far. ;)

I guess strength, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. I've had three comments so far that say my photo has nothing to do with strength, but to me, it has EVERYTHING to do with strength. I guess as long as I am happy with my submission and the reasoning behind it, people can think what they wish about it. I do, however, notice that all three negative comments are from people under 22 who haven't been around enough just yet to know the kind of strength I'm talking about. It comes with age, adversity, focus, determination, etc. I'm not saying that young people today have not had to deal with adversity, etc. at all...I'm just pointing out a statistic from my own experience in this challenge that I personally find interesting.

You can go outside the box, but not outside the topic. I went too far out, I think, both ways with my chaos entry:
It was fun to see what would happen, it just didn't score that high and thats alright, I learned from it.

I'm almost finished voting on this challenge! There are some good photos there, quite impressive! I will be surprised at the end result! Can someone maybe tell me the correct spelling "Strenght" "Stregnth" "Strenth" "Strehnth" :)))) So many different versions there :)

My goodness.... and you commented on incorrect 'speeling' in one of my titles. A sense of humor to go along with your your photography! To heck with refining the Advanced editing rules... give us a spell check in the Forums & Post's.
