Wow, they love you man!!! It would be interesting to hear from some that really do no appreciate his comments as they seem to move people. How come nobody has praised my comments like, "MAGNIFICENT for someone who obviously suffers from Vertigo". ;-)

It's pretty straight-forward.

Don't jump on others because Hahn himself chose to have this be a public issue. I tried my best to deal with it privately, as I will with anyone in the future that may have a problem. Don't make this one small incident become something it isn't.

Think about what you just said Edward. You have made this public by hanging it on their image in the first place. Hahn is just one of those folks that spoke up. Maybe not in a way that is appreciated by everyone but unique never the less. This is like the Pot calling the Kettle Black. I appreciate his wanting to hang a "No Junk Mail" sign on his images as I appreciate you wanting to market yourself. Some folks just do not want to subscribe to your form of marketing ....that's all.

I'm failing to see how a short story on a photo is considered "junk mail" when we ALL get comments like "Doesn't do it for me"??? In that case, I'd like to hang out a "no junk mail" sign for quite a number of comments that I've gotten.

When we put a photo up and it's open to comments, we also have to take the comments that we get as we get them. It doesn't mean that we have to like them or check that little box at the bottom of the comment to mark it as helpful.

Where is the harm in the little stories that Ed writes? How is it anymore upsetting than the 1's and the moronic, say-nothing comments? Shall we be able to shut all of those out too?

It's great that people like what I do. I would love to hear more from the people that don't as well. I even started a thread asking people who didn't want me commenting on their works to let me know so I could build a list and avoid this kind of thing. Nobody responded.

If you don't like them, or don't want them, *let me know*. I'll work with you to avoid leaving them. If you're only here to cause some disturbance, please don't post. There's a little button called "ignore". I know it well.

This isn't about you, and it's not even about ME. It's about people feeling happy and touched and getting a little something different to go with the endless repetition that this site can be sometimes. We'll celebrate that, with or without you.

LOL....do you not get a "helpful" check mark for the "MAGNIFICENT" comment? I do! And, I consider that my "praise". Afterall, it took me about 2 seconds to type that in....well, maybe 5, if I'm on the phone and typing with one finger! *grin, wink* I don't expect a thread in my name for that type of comment.

The difference here is Ed's Creativity in his comments and the time, effort and thought that he put into them. :)

I was so happy to get one!

"Come on, I'm telling you, I really have one, it's awesome! You can come over, and turn it on and play with it, and it's really exciting and there are so many different games we can play with it and everyone will be so jealous! Please? Please come play with it?!"

"Jason, for the last time, I am not coming over to play with your Wii!"

Thanks Edward!!

Oh man, I forgot about that one. I think I had to re-type it a few times because I was laughing so hard.

Yup, I almost blew coffee out my nose when I read it. You should really put a warning on those. ;)

Hey, Ed...there's enough people in here, OBVIOUSLY, who truly appreciate what you do in these comments. Stop apologizing for them or this thread in celebrating the joy, or small chuckle that they bring in usually a less than stellar comment section. I see that a lot of your comments are on shots that are not scoring highly. Your stories are likely bright spots in what is likely a dull and rather disappointing score.

NOW, send one of your comments my way. My scores are sucking big time of late! Could use the smile.

Ummmm, yeah, we do with everything else. It is an "Assumptive Subscription" that requires effort to remove. Some don't want to go to that effort.

Kudos to K10Guy for embarking on this campaign. Kudos to the door to door bible thumpers as their message is wholesome as well. At least with them, when I close my door and reopen in the future they'll likely not still be there.

Expletive Suppression Mode: Engage. [Check]
Reconfirm ESM Switch to: Engage [Check]

Two solutions have been offered: at a minimum, K10DGuy will graciously remove any of his posted comments upon request by the offended photographer. This should be sufficient.

In the case that it is insufficient, and the mere existence of the comment for any short length of time on a photographer's image is intolerable, that photographer has an option, since K10DGuy does not vote in these challenges, to forward information to him that will allow him to avoid posting anything on that image. SC has indicated that this is not a violation, so this option is available for someone if they are comfortable doing so. If they are not, that is also fine, but no need to attack anyone's integrity, and especially in a public way, is warranted.

It seems this should be fine, if one cannot brush the comment off and move on, as we all have to do with some comments we get on our images. I presume that no one is PMing every "non-helpful" commenter and asking them to remove their comments....

But I guess the larger idea here is that if you post an image here, the system is designed to allow comments. If one wants to censor the comments on their images, there is no system for that here. If one posts an image here, receipt of comments is assumed, generally considered a good thing, and some comments that are not helpful to the photographer come with the territory.

I think K10DGuy's comments are wonderful, a way to see into how some viewers relate to images. And they are so much more useful than "violates the RULE of Thirds" or "DNMC" sorts of comments.

LOL...I don't like the sports/car sections in the newspaper but, don't want to stop getting the paper. Yet, everyday, I open that paper and darn....there are the sports/car sections that I have to toss aside to get to the sections that I do enjoy. The newspaper delivery guy says that he can't remove those two sections because other people tend to like them. Ah well....c'est la vie. *SIGH*

Ok, BD...I just spit my Diet Pepsi across the screen, laughing over your opening comment..."K10DGuy will graciously remove any of his posted comments upon request by the offended photographer. This should be sufficient."

One would think that Toxic Waste has been dumped upon someone's photo. ;) Wait....I'm sure that someone will say that they consider it as such at some point now! ;)

I cannot believe how "touchy" things are getting in here lately.

Okay......I'm OP, so I get to make a statement here......

I like what Edward is doing; so do MOST of the other people here.

He takes time to leave a creative comment based on how the image inspires him.

Wow.....that really sucks, huh?

I constantly hear whining and grumbling because people don't leave comments.

And you want to get fussy about comments from a man who not only takes the time to comment on an image, but does so purely for the reason that the image has moved him in some way.

One of his comments, on this image, moved me to tears because he dealt with the pain and anguish associated with Alzheimer's......the pain and anguish that I'm watching my mother in law go through right now.

"He put his head in his hands in despair. Something that used to be so simple, was now so out of reach. Smacking the table in anger, followed by a tear of pure frustration, he struggled so hard to remember. So hard to recollect.

As his nurse came to place a blanket around his shoulders and lead him into bed, the tears fell a little more freely. Perhaps tomorrow it would return to him. Sometimes it did, you know. Sometimes it was like he was 20 again. Today, however, was not that day, and as he drifted off to sleep, sorrow in his heart and frustration in his brain, he prayed to whatever would hear him that tomorrow would be that day.

That tomorrow he'd be able to remember his daughter's name once again."

I lost my mother when I was 20; my mother in law IS the mother that I've had since I was 23, and it breaks my heart, and my wife's heart, to say nothing of my daughter losing her grandmother to the disease of dementia/Alzheimer's.

But very rarely do people remember to think about what the people who live in their heads with it must feel like almost every day.

Edward reminded me of that, and though my heart broke a little more, I was truly humbled by how this insightful man brought out that thought just from the impression this image made on him.

Edward makes you laugh, cry, think, remember, and just in general pause and take a moment to realize the powerful impression that what we do can make on others.

To say that one of his comments is mean-spirited and/or hurtful completely misses the point.......what your image has done is to draw out the story that it inspires in Edward.

If you don't want to see that, well.......I'm kind of sad for you.......it's a shame you cannot see them for the true gifts that they are.

My only question to you, who does not appreciate an in depth description of the impact that your image made is......what do you want from a comment if not the effect your image had on the viewer?

Edward, you know you have my utmost gratitude, delight, and appreciation for your work....I hope that you continue.

To be fair, Hahn made it quite clear he considered the K10 comment on his image to be "toxic". Now, *I* wouldn't have reacted the same way, but *he* did, and we're all allowed to be who we are, right?

I find this whole thread vaguely bemusing. We've always had a division of comments into "useful" and "not useful", we've had "positive" and "negative", and NOW, with Ed, seems like we have a new division of "sunny" and "dark". I doubt Hahn would be complaining about Ed's comment if he had spun (as he often does) a sweet fairy tale around the colt, but instead he crafted a darker, apocalyptic vision, and this apparently struck a nerve. Hahn feels like the image is somehow corrupted by this vision, perhaps especially inasmuch as the colt DID die :-(

Personally, I think it's an overreaction, but it's not my image and it's not my feelings that are involved, so I give Hahn a lot of slack here. He wanted the comment gone, it's gone, acceptable ending; but he's NOT a bad guy, not at all, for wanting this.

I agree with you, and accepted his request without question.

Thank you for saying what I probably should have earlier, but wasn't in the frame of mind to say without it getting off course.

Just a reminder, and I'll bold it: IF YOU WANT A COMMENT OF MINE REMOVED, OR WISH TO AVOID GETTING ONE, PM ME BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER THE FREE STUDY AND I'LL BE HAPPY TO REMOVE IT, OR WORK WITH YOU TO AVOID GIVING ONE.

Thank you. I'll make any effort to avoid this happening in the future.

I also have NO intention of quitting. I do think that for the most part it's a pretty positive and fulfilling exercise.

Yes, but since this thread is designed for the people who DO appreciate the comments, and for the purpose of sharing the comments that they got in a positive manner, wouldn't it have been better to discuss this off list with Edward rather than calling him out, by stating that the comment was mean-spirited and hurtful, in an appreciation thread?

I totally think hahn23 is out of line here.
K10Dgys comments are no more offensive (actually quite less really) than 'nice shot' or 'too blurry'

If you dont want comments, dont post pictures on a site where people comment on your pictures.

I wasn't initmating that Hahn is a "bad guy" at all! I read the comment that Edward made on Hahn's photo and I see that it has a "dark" side to it but, it's a tongue in cheek "darkness"....a "black comedy" style of story line. The unfortunate part was that it was unknown to Ed that the colt had died. This is likely where the touchy area comes into play???

I have also had comments with little stories given to my shots (not by K10DGuy) that had very dark feel to them. They were meant in a spirit of "fun" as that was what came to mind by the commenters at that time. I took it all as good fun. There is no way that the commenter could have known about the content of the shot as there was no indication behind even the title to give that away. The same holds true of Hahn's photo. It's simply a generic title. Edward saw what he saw in the shot and wrote a tongue in cheek type of story that he saw in the shot. There is no way that Edward could have seen anything more than that and no way that he could have known that it was Hahn's or that he didn't like or want the stories. That's simply the nature of putting up a photo in here. It's open to anyone, saying anything about it. If there's a photo that has special meaning to a photographer, a deep meaning and emotion behind it that is fragile, I suggest that it not be used as an entry because it is open to so much criticism that it could spark problems. I, personally, have had that experience with one of my shots and will NEVER enter a photo that has any deep emotional attachment to it in here, EVER again! I was hurt and angry by some of the comments that went with it. Edward was not one of them.

Perhaps, if anything can be learned from this, it's that....

One should NEVER enter a photo that has an emotional aspect behind it into a challenge in here if they aren't prepared to receive whatever commenters and voters can throw at it because it's vulnerable and open to anything!

Ok. really, the last thing I want is divisiveness over something that has been settled now.

Let's all move on, let the thread die, whatever, but let's leave Hahn alone. We've resolved it. It's over.

This is my plea. Let it go :D
