Could there be a new section called "politics" added to forum threads? The way it is now people put these threads in 'rant'.
I'm tired of seeing these 'debates' every single day and minute I look at the forum, out of 10 threads 3 are about politics. I wouldn't turn of 'rant' however, cause it's much wider area.
what do you think?

The thing with that is there are those who think the same about religion, nikon vs canon, world issues, Ken Rockwell etc.. Instead of starting another forum slot for each individual rant topic they just group them into one big rant thread section. You can leave the rant forum on but ignore the individual threads you don't like so they don't show on your front page. It takes two clicks and your done with the thread forever.

I'm sick to death of politics getting injected into a large number of the threads. For geographical reference, I am from the US, however we are not the only country in the world, nor are we the only country to have an election coming up.

Fortunately, the rest of the world seems to be a little less inclined to inflict politics on us. (Imagine if they were... yikes!)

I agree, that politics should have it's own little area.

The good news is, that at least for politics, things should calm down after election day in November.

I guess you're right. But these threads grow like mushrooms after rain. It's gonna be a lot of clicking ;-)

Note that by Day 4 they were simply a bit of black goo. If only that were true of political rants. :-)

At least it's true of politics itself.

Rather than keep responding to new requests to filter something why not add keywording option to preferences where you can specify all the things you want filtered via those keywords? For example something like this:

Keyword Thread Filter - Enter as many keywords as you like. These keywords will be used to help filter out threads that you're not interested in. Beside each keyword enter the number of instances that is needed for a thread to be filtered out. This is to avoid filtering out threads you may be interested in but uses the keyword in passing.

Enter Keyword 1 - Number of Instances:
Enter Keyword 2 - Number of Instances:
Enter Keyword 3 - Number of Instances:
Enter Keyword 4 - Number of Instances:
...

Maybe also add a checkbox to filter out any thread that has a keyword in the title of the thread since just one instance of that should suggest a thread you're not interested in.

Speaking of politics, I heard Ken Rockwell recently converted to Islam, is switching to Canon and is running for State Senate. The guy's a genius, I tell ya! Discuss...

In 2004, we established one election thread and all discussion went in it. If any other popped up, it was locked and pointed to the original.

Nothing official has been decided, yet, but I, personally, wouldn't mind going that route again.

Yeah- I like it-- funnel them all into one thread and then--- BURN IT TO THE GROUND! :-)

I originally marked this thread "Ignore" because I figured it would just degenerate into the usual bickering regarding politics, how DPC is a community for discussion, etc.

However, I searched it back out just now to join the OP in his request - please, please, please, make a separate forum for politics! It becomes such a huge issue anytime an election is within...well, months, actually.

I don't care about politics. I don't care about seeing propaganda. I don't care who you support or why. Each time I come on DPC these days, I find myself spending several minutes identifying all the new political threads on the front page and marking them to "Ignore."

If we can choose not to see the "Personal Life" threads en mass, I think we should be able to hide the political ones the same way.

And before anyone asks, no, I don't want to just hide all of Rant because many of those threads (non-political) are interesting/amusing/whatever. (Remember the great one about the rake photo?)

I would support having a separate forum for politics. However, would that also include religion, or would that require another forum? And which forum gets the anti-gay-rights posts?

The traditionally-forbidden topics of conversation (at parties, reunions, etc.) are religion and politics, so I suppose both of those could go in one section. Not saying it's going to happen, but the suggestion has been "forwarded" ...

Thanks, General
Until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed our temporary respite from the religious rants

Thank citymars who raised the question -- I merely offered what I thought was the most logical and practical answer ... :-(

I'm doing that tomorrow. Going to a pumpkin patch with my niece and family. Today... I dunno.

Add me to the list of the politic/religion "conversations" getting dumped in a subsection of rants. Although a lot of this will subside once the elections pass. So creating one thread where everything about the election can be dropped. I counted 13 threads started this month in rant having to do with politics. Not having to ignore a few new ones a day would be nice.

Come on man....subside when the election is past?

If Obama wins, there will be tons of rants....if McCain wins....especially if Obama is ahead in the polls on the Monday before the election, the political comments will explode !

I cast my vote for a "Politics & Religion" forum that, like the Rant forum, is Ignorable. PLEEEEEASE?? How hard can it be?? And I don't think I've heard one voice of opposition against it. Let people who choose to participate in their propaganda wars do so in the back alley of DPC - out of sight of those of us who come here to get away from it all.

I hate this idea Art, sorry, and I for one will remove all my photos of naked women if it gets passed, fair warning.

Lol, seriously though I don't see any reason not to separate it so you have my vote for it too. :)

Hey! I couldn't find any images of nekkid wemmins in your portfolio! What's up with that? I did find a image entitled "severed wood". I found that one to be very disturbing. You can remove that one.
