The moral of the story for all of us who submit - remember all the actions you took and write them down!!!

Congrats to ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' AP on the Red (again) and Congrats to Site Council for rectifying an error.

I don't know if its kosher to discuss DQs or not but I really need a 2nd opinion on this?

What distortion?

Looks like some star bursts have been added in the B&W version. They are more emphasized at the top of the frame in the B&W, but at street level it looks like they have been added.

Yep, (sob) it could have all been avoided (sob) if the photographer's steps were complete.

:) :)

Because asking the photog what was done would have been too much extra effort? I'm also curious (that is to say, have always feared) what happens if the wrong original is inadvertently submitted. Will this be another DQ w/o any communication or will the user get a chance to rectify what might have been a simple mis-click with the mouse on upload?

We re-request. It happens all the time. In this case, it was obviously the correct frame, and several of us tried to reproduce it (very unusual that we'd miss so simple an edit), but "asking what was done" is part of requesting the original.

If it is the wrong original, we ask. Usually two or three times until we get it.

In this case, though, it was obviously the original as things "almost" matched up, except that it looked like the perspective had been corrected. Since we follow the photog's steps as given, and since there was no rotate, and since the rotation would not be obvious in looking at it because it was subtl, we did not know to do it.

We are many things. We are not mind readers. We ask for editing steps for a reason, not just so we can have extra reading material.

How so?

They're in the color version. Converting to B&W will make them more prominent depending on how the conversion is done, but I see nothing added.

To the OP:
If you believe that your editing was legal, you should immediately open a "General Inquiry" ticket to the SC so that they can review (select Help>Contact from the main menu). Provide any additional information in the ticket that you believe supports your case. SC will reverse a decision if they find that the DQ was in error.

It's subtle, but unless you can show them lined up without distorting... It could have been a mistake as simple as forgetting to hold shift down during a free transform.

I take it back - I was able to rotate and scale evenly and got a near perfect alignment. Vindicated, I believe! It just takes some effort. I don't know why the SC doesn't grant the benefit of doubt anyway and give someone a chance to appeal.....

Thank you, SC, for reversing the DQ, I am very happy to have another 36 hours on the front page :)

My apologies for not just using the general inquiry ticket - I emailed you simultaneously but really wasn't even sure what it was that was wrong with the image and just wanted some thoughts from the public on what I could have done wrong. Secretly, I also wanted public vindication because I am never happy to be branded with the 'Scarlet Letter' that is a ribbon DQ, but I suppose I should have kept quiet about it. I searched the forums and saw similar threads so I thought it was okay.

I didn't recall actually doing a rotation when I sent in my original - when I crop my images I just move the box around and play with it until I get what I want and don't really think about what I'm doing, hah. And previously my images have been validated without in depth notes on the editing steps, so I just thought this would go through. I didn't realize the thoroughness you guys put into validation - I will be more complete in the future on the dozens, and dozens of ribbons I will be sure to win in the near future :P.

Thanks to the SC for taking the time and effort on this, and thanks to the commoners for brandishing your pitchforks!

After owning a Sigma 10-20, let me assure you you're not gonna correct the perspective at 10mm. Ain't gonna happen. ;P

Oh, I donno about that. I've corrected convergence with my 10-22mm at 10mm quite succesfully. Of course, I didn't have THAT much convergence :-)

I'm sorry for the ones who got misplaced...

But I'm THRILLED that SC will admit a mistake (we ALL make them) and with proper steps listed will rescind the DQ.

Three cheers for SC!!

Glad you got a good copy of that lens.
I got a crap copy and actually exchanged it one time for another. Both were crap in different ways. So I gave up and got me money back. I really wanted the 10mm as I love playing with wide. ;p

Mine's the Canon 10-22mm, actually. I assume yours was some other brand, since you shoot on the Dark Side ;-)

Mine was the Sigma for Nikon as was the OP's. That's why I brought it up.
There is not a dark or bright side. Only boxes with electronics that photographers use to make images. ;P
