Other than organizing my photos into logical folder trees, I have never used any 3rd party programs to keep my folders organized. I'd like to start using Bridge to organize my pictures. The feature I want to take advantage of most is the keyword feature. Being able to add keywords to all of my photos would be great.
Here are my questions though:
1. If I add keywords to a particular photo, using Bridge, will those keywords be permanently embedded into that picture's metadata? So if I were to transfer all of my pictures to a different computer and even use a different program (something other than Bridge), the new program would recognize the keywords??? I don't want to put a ton of work int giving my pictures keywords if the keywords won't stick with that picture regardless of what I ultimately do with it.
2. If I add keywords to a photo and then duplicate that file, do the keywords/metadata transfer over to the duplicated file? Or do image copies erase metadata (keywords, etc.)?
3. Does anyone know of any new features in Bridge CS4?
Thanks for your help. |

Are you shooting raw or jpeg?
Keywords are stored in sidecar files (.xmp) for raw files and embedded in jpegs.
I'm not nearly experienced enough with bridge to answer #2. However, I would assume that the answers are similar to Lightroom. In which case the answer is yes.

Well, I do shoot RAW images, however my end product is almost always a JPEG. And my tagging does not take place (typically) until after I have processed the RAW file. So if keywords are embedded into JPEGs, I should be able to transfer files to other file management programs and they will immediately recognize any associated keywords? |

I used to love Bridge, until I tried Lightroom. Give the demo a shot, you won't be disappointed. |

I agree with Jac when he says that Bridge is a wart covered pig. Lightroom is much better for organization. |
