I agree. I'm also wondering if people are voting on the attractiveness of the model.

My score is ??? It was 5.0x after 9 votes and that disgusted me. So I turned off the scores.

so disappointing and hard to explain.

unless my model is just unappealing to people, or there is some weird color cast that I missed (being color blind sucks in color challenges {grin}) I am quite confused about the scoring I am seeing and others are reporting.

I find that most of the time, the more people in a challenge the lowers the scores tend to be. But that is just an observation I have seen.

I suspect at least some of the non-studio portrait shots were misplaced free study entries, but I've also seen votes of 1 or 2 on very obviously above average studio portrait entries. Not cool.

I gotta admit, I gave out lower scores for chopped off heads. Just a personal preference I guess, so sorry chopped off heads people.

From Wiki: A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant.

i score on lighting, and yes the challenge is studio, so i score on studio shots, some nice non studio shots got some good scores from me, like juliette, i like whole heads and body parts, unless and can tell it was done intentionally

i did not enter this challenge but I have to say I am impressed with most of the shots in the challenge, given out an average score of 6.2

Cropping the top of the head (typically above the eyebrows or halfway through the hair) is a common technique of classic portrait photography. You'll find many examples in the portfolio of Librodo (quite possibly DPC's top portrait photographer) and among the highest rated photos.

Classic case of selective perception. For a long time I thought the opposite was true; then I checked my own scores in relation to the number of entries and they showed no correlation.

True, but cropping off just the top 3 or 4 hairs is not a recognized technique

Thanks for the low score on an otherwise beautiful portrait... nice narrow mindedness you have there!

just because a picture is not taken INDOORS does not make it NOT a studio shot......you guys amaze me.......the world is our canvas yet apparently unless it is setup in a sterile inclosed environment it doesn't count........sheesh lol ok I'm off my high horse

You're not the only one, I've been asked to validate my photo (because my skin looks really smooth, I imagine.) That happens when I use denoise on my photos, plus I was deliberately going for a soft/dreamy look. Everything I did was perfectly legal though, as always. Damn suspicious kids these days.

I would also note the smaller canvas we use on DPC also encourages some head chopping. I've done it plenty of times before.
