What kind of Silhouettes do you like?

I considered submitting something equal to this shot (older one):

What do you think?

If the SUN would only come out, I could get some damn shots!

I think I would like it more if it were more crisp. Otherwise, very good shot.

I took some photos last night that I consider silhouetted, but there is still good detail. They are backlit and there is a halo around the subject, so I was wondering if they would be voted down because the subject wasn't black or really dark. Any thoughts/opinions?

That sounds like one I'm going to submit. But then I don't tend to care whether my photo is going to do badly or not.
I say if you like it, and you think it fits the challenge, put it in. To me, if there is some shadow detail, this can make a silhouetted picture more interesting. If voters are too literal minded to appreciate this, then tough!

Would anyone share any tips for taking good silhouettes? Like what the best time is, and things to avoid.

Thanks...

Obviously sunsets and sunrizes would be best outside but I don't see why other moments wouldnt be good. I'd love to see some well taken silhouettes in the night but I doubt they would do good since the indications say there should be light from behind to define them and many people blindfuly follow stuff like that when voting. In my opinion light from anywhere could define a good silhouette but I'm so affraid of the blind voters gonna attempt one from behind probably :) The most important thing would probably to avoid burning edges out, since sihlouettes are about shape, loss of detail on the subject to bring attention on the shape in my opinion would help too but the thought of how voters usualy take stuff like those here scares me again :)
Other than that ill say avoid forgeting your lens cap on and good luck :)

Kosta, you continue to amaze me.. I really enjoy your photography and your "point of view" on the world.

Looks like Julius Caesar, is it? And then I would guess this is in Rome, but I can't think off where... Nice shot, BTW.

You might want to read the majority of comments on this before leaving much detail ;)

well, I have submitted,
What a dilemma, I had a choice of 3 or 4 what I think were pretty good examples but how do you choose?
I hope I posted the right one,
good luck everyone.

Here's one I didn't choose, but thought it was cool anyway.

I posted about is in another thread; so it looks like that black/dark is the order of the day :)

Hope people don`t get to many `This is to dark` comments` ;0

It sucks.

I'm pretty sure I'm the one that suggested Silhouettes, because they're my favorite type of photograph to look at, and I never got around to taking any.

Oh well, I can't wait to vote. There are going to be a lot of 10s from me.

I think I have a fairly decent shot for once this time around! LOL!

At 165, I think every member came out. Should be a good week.
