Hi folks,

I've been wanting to try to shoot stock but I have two major doubts:

1. Is it possible to shoot stock with a Canon EOS 400D? And is the kit lens acceptable?

2. Should I really try it? Can you take a quick look at some images I have and tell me if I can have a chance? I have some challenge photos in my portfolio and some other images on my Flickr account.

Thanks in advance.

1. a) Of course. b) Yes, but some better glass would definitely be an advantage.

2. Very nice images. The only way you'll know for sure is if you try. There are many threads in these forums on how to get started in stock.

Yes. I recently got accepted by Istockphoto, shooting with a 350D. Had a couple of uploads accepted, but no sales yet, it's only been a couple of days. I expect it will take some time and more images to build momentum.

Ahh you got in to iStock Yospiff congrats mate, I was just accepted today also, had 2 images accepted initially then the next 2 seperate ones declined which was annoying really as they are sellers on shutterstock lol

Not uploaded anything to iStock yet as I am looking to do a shoot all this weekend with shots intended for exclusive use to them (not tried being exclusive before so will see how it goes), then the next step for me is to put together a range of images that I will submit to Alamy.

It's just like opinions here at DPC, each reviewer has different criteria. One of my initial "show us what you can do" samples passed, and then when I uploaded it as a for-sale image, it was rejected without option to resubmit. A vague explanation was given on image quality. Different days, different reviewers.

Yeah I'm kind of expecting one of my originals to suffer that same fate it's not really a stock worthy subject but is really nicely taken so I submitted it as technically it shows more than a not so well taken shot that may be of a stockworthy subject matter. I see iStock is currently only allowing 15 images a week though so I might just shoot tons of images this week and submit the best 15 to them exclusively and use any left overs elsewhere plus any they reject, then rinse and repeat until I have a reasonable sized port there and can look at trying my luck at Alamy.

ETA: Spelling (as usual)
