'LOOK OUT' - at #37 got ripped! It took a lot of effort to get that shot just right and it was cool. 'SATURDAY DRIVE' - at #19 should have placed higher. What a beautiful sepia photo it was. I do NOT think that BETWEEN RIDES and MOSTLY HARMLESS deserved to be up there so high. SHADOW RIDER and BLOWING THIS TACO STAND were MUCH better photos. But, hey, that's my opinion and we all have one, right?

Last challenge, people said my photo should have done better. This time, I actually do well, and people say I shouldn't have. Go figure :)

To each, his own :) Between rides and Mostly Harmless were two of my 10s last week :)

I really enjoyed all of the top 3. I WAS surprised to see my top pick at #15.

I am tired of seeing people tear down the winners. Obviously these people captured the largest audience, and they all had very good photos. Congradulations all, I hope I do that well some day.

Yeah, me too. And after looking at the other entries this week, for the first time, my entry is not so good after all. I retract my statement that it should be an 8.

David, why don't you think your own shot is worth an 8? Are you scoring your own shot in comparison with others or do you really feel that your shot is not that good?

My photo is a 10 in my own eyes but the voters so far say 5.845 :)

To each their own. Mostly Harmless was my only 10 last week.

Oh, I think it is a 9.7----------actually I think it is my best entry.
The voters think it is a 4.95 but with some nice comments. There are several I think are 10''s though.

I almost always give six or seven 10s, but last week "Mostly Harmless" was my only 10 as well.

JM..I know which photo is yours becaseu..well..I seen it somewhere else :-)

That photo is one of the best here and if people are scoring it less than a 7 they don''t need to be hangin out here. I think it is jealousy that may be driving them because they can''t shoot that well. I gave it a 9 and not a 10 only because of a color thing...you know what I mean.

Be careful about letting too many people see your photo beforehand is all I got to say. There are a lot of folks who vote based on liking or disliking people instead of just the photo.

I don't hide the fact that I do post my stuff elsewhere before the challenge... if someone wants to vote my photo down because the don't like *me*, I don't have a problem with it... My entry this week is my favorite of all the submissions I have made here so far. Feedback is much more important to me than the score.

A great score is nice and I have managed to receive great scores almost every week. I'm happy with my results here where score is concerned. I would like more useful feedback, but what I get is good :)

When there are so many people that put themselves in their photos every week, I do not understand why we worry about anonimity.
06/18/2002 04:03:47 PM · #18
personally, i think it's part of the fun of this site. to look at a photo w/out knowing anything about who took it.

I agree on the feedback deal - I participated for the first time in the On The Road challenge and although I didn''t get a very high score, I look at it as a learning process. Granted my shot didn''t take a lot of time/thought to take.. still. I also learn from what other people are doing. I''ve been playing around with my camera trying to emulate some shots i''ve seen here.

You guys seem like a really nice bunch of people, I''m so happy I found this website!

I thought that CRASH was an excellent shot.. the camera shake added a nice sense of chaos to the image and made it look like the accident was in progress... even though you just stumbled across this photo, it's a good one :)

It's all an illusion. Stick around, though. Before too long, you'll be jaded and hopelessly addicted like the rest of us. :-)

FWIW, I like "Crash." I almost had a picture of a horrendous looking accident the final day of the challenge. A kayak was riding horizontally into the back seat of a SUV. OUCH. I didn't want to use it, though, unless I could find out that everyone was reasonably ok. I couldn't find out, blah, blah, blah.

Did you vote after you knew or before? Just curious :)

Just wanted to state that any opinions I left - were just first reactions. I'm just starting out and just commented on my reaction.

Also..I have only discovered this site over the weekend and am already addicted. I have already learned a lot from the discussions and am realizing how far I need to go - understanding photography. It has also helped me to broaden my way of thinking. I've been going back to the "On The Road" photos and reading the comments - looking for feedback and how people 'see' things (or not see things-as the case seems to be very often).

Yes, I actually submitted a photo for this(last) week's challenge. I really didn't like it too much myself, but I have to start somewhere. I like the feedback - constructive crticism is good - it's one way to learn.

So, I'm saying thanks - I think there is a lot to learn from this site!

I'm Diggin this too,

I was sitting down to write personalized individual thanks notes to all that made comments on my picture. This web-sight has changed quite a bit over the last several days. I can no longer view the individual members. I hope this is a temporary situation. I enjoy looking at the different cameras being used and being able to see the individual ratings. I also wanted to thank several people who took time out of their busy day to offer some very encouraging thoughts. (Now I can't find them)
I had hoped to win first place - But after viewing the other Entries, I am pleased to have done as well as I did. I Thank You All.
