...well, not really advice, more encouragement to say the new version looks and `feels` better than the old version.

IGNORE - NEW SITE NOW UP. LINKS DELETED.

Its more of a facelift than a drastic change, I have made it narrower so more pleasing for people with screen resolutions of 1024px wide - it also replicates our brochures a lot better, so anyone visiting our site after picking up a booklet will feel instantly familiar with the look & feel of it all.

no links work on the new one yet.

Comments please.. ta.

Cheers Cindi, I am really pleased with the new layout, but I feel I have remained spiritually close to the old style. Glad its not just me getting wrapped up in it.

Indeed the difference are subtle, but aesthetically and organizationally very important, helping your users to analyze and process the information quicker.

Here's what I notice:

- New lines help divide the content
- Less wide and tall, making it easier to digest
- Equal spacing and better delineation along the top nav bar really helps quick comprehension of navigation
- Better margins around the more-readable (but still not black) text

Very nice.

Cheers Jeff, glad the changes have been worthwhile. General consensus so far is that it is better.

The link in this line is sick (broke):

You can view a sample of Marks non-wedding related works HERE

Only looked at page one......ditch the hip / stomach photo and put something there that everybody can tell it is definitely a bride.

Oh that is horrid Mark, what were you thinking, the first was 15X better at least. lol jk really awesome job, I like the 2nd one better, very nicely done.

Mark, I see very little difference in the sites. I like both of them and I can see the difference but it's like looking at a red apple and a green apple, it's still an apple...

I think that you might have wasted some time with the new version.

This is how I look at it I guess... I have been to your site probably more times than anyone here just because I visit sites just to see what people have been doing and when you mentioned that you were redesigning the site I guess I was expecting something just out of this world.

It's still nice but you can do better. Can we see a v3?

heh, sorry to disappoint you :)

seriously though. it was more of a facelift to get rid of a few wrinkles and slim it out a little bit so was never meant to be a huge makeover. also bear in mind its the 2nd site I have ever HTML`d - the first was v1.. Thanks for looking though and I appreciate your thoughts.

It was actually a shot of the back of her dress, but point taken - how about the new image in its place?

Liking the new look Mark very nice.

I would change the side image to the one on the old site where the guy has his hand on the brides hip and is showing off his new wedding ring, I think that would look really good and is a nice contrasty image as well.

All in all though mate superb job especially considering this is only your second ever site.

I'm having a bit of trouble with the links ... I can't the packages, gallery or clients area to load ... the other ones pop right up ... is that a lot of content that's taking a while to load? Or have you not finished the site yet?

Ooooooooooooooh that's lovely. I like the darker text, makes it MUCH easier to read. Very nicely done!

Looks good. Only thing is that I like the rounded edges of the header in your old site..

:)

your "our gallery" link won't work for me. I also had a question, how do you let your customers order prints, is it something where you meet and talk about it and they choose which ones, or is it available to do online?
09/20/2008 03:00:11 PM · #22
OK, finally gone live with the new design - took me a lot less time to move it all across (thanks to PHP) than I thought it would. Still working on the gallery though as I am designing that from scratch - not sure whether to go with Flash or HTML.

RyanD - Ordering prints is all done from the clients area.

Thats what I thought, I was wondering more how it is done, like the process, I'm looking for ideas for my site.

Mine is a pretty straight forward link that emails me - I can take credit card payments over the phone so its all pretty much done on a email - phoneback service, saves me paying a middleman to take my payments for me. To be honest though I try not to sell too many prints, I'd rather sell the DVD to the B&G then advise people to approach them for prints - I know some ppl (Prof_fate) will wax lyrical how I am doing myself out of business, but I just don't have enough time to worry about sending out 100s of prints a week. There are online proofing service out there though that take the pain out of all that nonsense and I may well investigate them later this year.

The link to the new site is not working for me. Anyone else have the same issue?
