As a personal rule, I dont vote in a challenge I take part in. This one I can, and so I just finished:

You have rated 86 of 86 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 86 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.1977

Good luck guys!

That's not a "comment", that's just a pile of statistics...

It is still better than no comment at all. It shows the strengths and weaknesses of the picture categorically and quantitatively.. better than a "DNMC" or a "Great pic, great DOF" IMO.

I think it's a valid comment - it indeed does tell a lot about what that particular viewer thinks about the picture. The categories and stats together show what the viewer is looking for/at and how that photograph meets (or doesn't meet) those criteria.

Prash - there's certainly some logic in what you're saying. What I don't understand though is why you would have 6 categories to give out 10 points ? It means that if you give any one of the categories a two or above, other categories must remain mathematically empty . .

Valid question. I have a maximum of 5 for the 'Meets the challenge' category. Rest are all given out of a maximum 1 point. So if an entry weakly meets the challenge, it might get a 3 lets say in that criterion, still leaving room for a total of 7/10. Hope that helps a bit. Again, these are just my criteria.

Uhhh.. may be not. Thats a proprietary format;-) I did to some extent in an earlier post. If you have a question, PM me once the voting is over.

And now I start to see clearly why people dont comment usually. Not many can take criticism well.

I think for most people it's just trying to understand how the scale works - which you've now explained :- )

For me, there is a danger that the format you are using comes across as a little impersonal, which is perhaps why people tend to use words rather than numbers, and verbalise what they see as the strengths and weaknesses.

Personally the more I comment, the harder I find it to put pictures into specific criteria - not least because my views are also evolving and changing. The more exposed I get to all the different streams of pictures and genres here on DPC, the more open I am to trying to understand where the person is trying to go with their picture - rather than trying to fit it to my expectations.

But that might just be me :- )

Oh, so I got a nice vote... thinking it was worse than a DNMC...

Am I wrong to assume not everybody follows the forums?
