Cool shot. Here it is. Take just the number (721103) click the second icon in from the right and your image will show.

I tried a very quick edit on your first shot you posted and wrote the steps I took. At the resized for web file size, the sharpening did an ugly number on the sky trails, but it can give you the idea of first steps I would do.

ah wow thats a much bigger improvement than my version... unfortunately i dont have a raw file for this =( i shot in jpg at the time for space concerns (regret it till this day)

was taken a while back ... i now shoot in raw but to little to late as they say.

I will try doing what you recommend and see what i can come up with

Spot edit the hot/stuck pixels (red stars that are not following the movement of the others)
Slight Noise Reduction

Curves will help the shot quite a bit

Highpass Sharpen will put an even more constrasty edge on the foreground.

CS3, New layer blended in soft light @ 57%, flatten. Dodge and burn @ 5% to bring out detail, bump contrast about 20%, and save. Open in Noise Ninja, auto profiled. Hope this helps.
