I was waiting for Nikon to go CMOS! The D80 just has too much noise ISO 800 and above. I would have liked a D300, but it's too big, and frankly, too much money. And I like SD cards better than CF (no bent pins)

Now, here's something of interest to you...

First, if you are interested in a D90, Dell is offering 15% off through their small business division. While I only needed a body, they only had the body lens combination.

So now when I get it, I'll be selling the lens. It's the 18-105mm DX VR Lens. Anyone know what that's worth by itself?

Hope I don't regret the purchase (especially from Dell), but I doubt anyone will be discounting the camera for a while, so I jumped at the opportunity.

I just ordered two heaters...oh, sorry.

Congrats on the new purchase. As long as Dell doesn't brand the camera, can't see where you would have a problem - they won't be servicing it (if it ever needs it) so no worries there.

I'm still not sold on the cards thingie of late though. I like my CF cards, never had a bent pin problem. I could see myself losing the others on a regular basis.

The 18-105 DX VR lists for $399 on 17th Street photo...

Enjoy, The D90 has a very impressive list of features for about 1000 $.

The reason I think I might regret the order from Dell is that my last camera order from them--the Canon Rebel XT, it took them 2 months to ship it, they sent an inquiry email to an old email address of mine, and when I didn't answer, they cancelled the order and I lost my sale price.

Then I called and negotiated a decent deal on one, but they only had the silver one and I ended up getting that one, even though I really wanted the black one (but the price was at least right).

And it still took them weeks to ship it.

After that, I started ordering cameras elsewhere.

I hope you don't have any reason for regrets when it's all said and done. :-/ I ordered camera equipment from Dell one time and had a similar story to the one you wrote about (mine was a lens that kept getting pushed back on delivery date). In the end I cancelled the order and made the purchase at B&H.

Enjoy your new camera once you get ahold of it! :-)

Bought one off of Amazon yesterday with $3.99 next day shipping.
UPS Tracking says it's "out for delviery".

WOOHOO!!!

Although I'm a Canon fanboy, I will say: 'grats. I was impressed with the D90 previews, and that D-Movie function looks fascinating.

Congrats on the new camera. The D90 looks very impressive. If I decide to jump ship from Pentax early next year it is probably what I would go with.

Although, I am pretty sure I'll go with a K20D- its just hard to give up on all my Pentax glass.

Enjoy.

I had a bad experience with Dell. I actually ordered a K10D a year ago and then I had to cancel my order. They kept on not shipping it out. There was no number for me to call...I had to chat with some dude from another country. He informed me that they didn't have them in stock. So in the end Dell pretty much wasted about a week of my time. They did refund the money. Last time I checked they had a 2-star rating on resellerratings.com -- don't know what it is now....

Let us know how the video feature works! I find it very intriguing.

"DELIVERED"
Let's just say that I'm not getting much done the second half of the day here at the office.
Not much time to play but what an improvement on viewfinder, lcd, and menus from the D70.
The 3d AF mode seems to work pretty sweet - af system seems way better than the d70.
Haven't shot any movies yet.

Anyone want a D70s and/or an 18-105 VR lens?

can't wait to hear how you both like this camera.....
It would be a big leap from my D50, I think....and I think the D300/D200 are too much camera for me.
Christmas is coming!!

What just anoyes me on this camera is the SD card slot.

I have a D300 and two D70 to be substituted in a short term period and because of this I can't buy a D90 as a backup.

Just stupid this pro versus amateur camera division.

Someone once told me that you could buy a compact flash card that had a little SD card slot in the side of it to convert an SD card into a Compact Flash card.... I don't know if they were right or not... but that's what they told me...

cool, grats on that great toy!
i'll have a look at that cam at this year's photokina, i hope they have it available for playing around with it at the show...if it really blows me away (including the video mode) i'll substitute my fuji with the d90.

I'm waiting to see how the noise at ISO's above 800 look. I have not seen a review as yet but if it does as good as the D300/D3 then I may change my mind about a D300 and look a the D90. Let us know and maybe post a few uneditied high ISO shots. Thanks in advance for keeping us up to date. Have fun exploring.

Got mine 2 days ago! Awesome camera, incredible sharpness at high iso's. enjoy yours!

after 1 day of light playing I am very happy with it and think it's the perfect upgrade for me from the D70s (esp. given the price).
One thing I miss is no metering on my MF Ais Lens but big deal, I chimp the exposure and fiddle until it's right.
I may have to exhange mine for another model as I seem to have a hot pixel.
It's obvious at 6400 and 3200 but also visible at 800 which is note acceptable IMO.
Will post an example sometime this weekend.
Aside from that I really like it.
The size of the viewfinder is another great upgrade from the D70.
The AF System also seems much much better and more responsive, especially with my non-AFS lenses.

US1photo.com apparently has the body only in stock. Does this seem legit?

I have no idea if US1photo.com is any good, but B&H has offering the D90 body only for $999...

I ordered mine from Dell so naturally I'm still waiting. And I had to get the body and lens, but at least I got 15% off!
