I have read the 'you cans' and 'you cannots' and don't see noise reduction anywhere. did i miss it? is it allowed? i am somehow doubting it's allowed in this minimal deal, but curious.

It's not allowed; it falls under filters/other editing tools.

HOWEVER (and I mentioned it below) you should have options when you resize, and I notice that some of those functions work on noise better than others. Still won't be as good as a dedicated noice reducing tool, but it's better than nothing. And, of course, you can only resize once.

Download open resize sharpen save for web.

I think maybe I can remember that...

I'm in - thanks to talj, who bought me a membership. :-D

These tools I may use because I must still envision my shot and decide what will best actualise that vision, just as I must before choosing aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
Technically, the camera may apply the effect post-capture, I don't know, but it is CHOSEN pre-capture.

My camera also allows me to choose any of the shots I have already captured and apply D-lighting, red-eye correction, filter effects, image overlay and cropping. These I may NOT use, because they allow me to post-process shots I've already taken.

We can do all that? ROFL! I did not know about the second part. :P I'm stupid...

Noise reduction as a camera setting before you take the shot is fine. Anything applied AFTER you take the shot is off-limits aside from basic Sharpen and Grayscale conversion and one resize.

I just about made an "oops", then re-read the rules. Sharpening is only "sharpen" - nothing customizable like smart sharpen or USM! You may: sharpen your entry using your editing software’s “sharpen” or equivalent option. The use of customizable sharpening tools, such as Unsharp Mask, is not allowed.

I am happy to see the noise reduction option cleared up in this thread. I was not sure about that, so I just resized my entry, stripped fluff files and posted it. I am happy that I didn't use NR.

I ran a basic sharpen over mine and then resized it. I must say, it was kinda nice to get a photo sorted out so fast and submitted to the site! No having to faff about with levels and brightness and all that stuff, worrying what you can do next to make the pic 'pop' a little more, fretting over whether or not there was some edit you could've done differently that would've been better. It made a nice change to hit 2 options and be done!

Well mine is done and submitted. Roll on the low scores :s

Took photo, downloaded, resized and saved for web!! And still time for a cup of tea!

Well, I pulled my shot - not as dramatic as I would like...good luck everyone.

I really hope the voters know the image they are looking at is unprocessed ( except) sharpening, and we don't get comments would have cropped out this or that, and other ideas they may see in the photo, realizing these photos are RAW, to use a word.

Yeah, several days looking at the image (far too much thinking here) and the fact it may get voted down for being a bit too dark makes me question entering it...

Actually, the challenge is to have taken the image so it would stand on it's own so that one would not know it was a minimal editing rules set. If the image would be significantly better cropped or lit differently or saturated differently, then I would expect that those comments are both valid and useful. Pre-planning the shot is what this challenge is about.

Mine is definitely too dark, which is why I stopped looking at it to prevent the desire to pull it.

Mine's dark too and needs a levels adjustment. It's so frustrating because it looked great in the camera.

Not everyone may agree with this... but when I am voting for this challenge, an image that needs to be cropped, or is too dark will not get a very good vote from me... I'm not being mean or picky or anything... it's just that the whole point of this challenge is to take a picture that does NOT need to be cropped and does NOT need to be adjusted with photoshop... If you think that every picture needs to be photshopped, talk to someone who still shoots film... I only switched to digital in December... with film, you get whatever the film records...

This challenge is a TRUE test of whether you know HOW to use your Camera... not how well you know how to use photoshop... IF you know how to use your camera properly, you should be able to take a Great picture without photoshop...

Sorry If i offended anyone with that rant... =)

please don't hate me... but that is the point of minimal editing...

Just to add to that... i did enter this challenge, and I don't think that I will do very well... and that is because I am still learning how to use my camera...

Aside from feeling like a slacker if I don't PP my image, I had a great time shooting mine. Like many others, I expect to score low, but look forward to viewing the other entries. Good luck everyone!

At what level do you see high votes, a high vote for me is a 6.5 wink wink say no more.

I hate been under 6.5...but judging by my scores of late I have been high 4's to low 5'2...and that is what I am predicting with this entry. My photo is not what anyone would expect to do for a Long Exposure and yet it may have just enough appeal to hold it...but I doubt it!
