The image formerly in 2nd place was disqualified for a rules violation. Please join me in congratulating ytshuva on a new yellow ribbon!

Wow. First entry, first ribbon, and first DQ, all on the same image. What a shame.

seems to happen a lot around here... always looks fishy to see it :P

agree, so many first time entries that ribbon get DQ`d - ppl should read the rules properly - or stop trying to cheat.

When it comes to dates and only dates it's sometimes not the photographer's fault. He may have reset his camera, or it may have just come back from repairs and his clock wasn't set to the correct time. It ultimately is his fault but I wouldn't go as far as calling him a cheater. That's a bit heavy, in this case. Unless you know something I don't about this photog.

Seems the photo was taken almost a week before the photographer states it was. I'm not sure if its fishy, cheating, or just an accident. But it does seem to happen alot to first time entries, and mostly from outside the US. Language barrier? Too excited about a new place to challenge themselves to read the rules? Who knows. No one but the photographer will.

I'm curious how you know that.

If you download the photo, it says it was taken on the 23rd in the EXIF data.

Ah... I'm so used to our images being stripped of EXIF in save-for-web that I never bother to check that. Thanks.

I was just going to say that. I was surprised to see it actually there. Thanks

You dont have to download it. I'd never download anyones image. In firefox there is an extension called Exif view, I can right click and hit the option and it pulls the exif from it and displays it on the screen for me.

That's a way cool extension, I just added it to my FF. Thanks!

No problem, there is also a free program for IE users, or firefox users called Opanda Exif viewer that does the same thing. Its what I used before I found the Exif view.

I resent that statement. My first entry was a ribbon and a DQ because I never set the date on my camera. Being a DPC "noob" I was not aware of that problem until it was too late.

I didn't necessarily mean to imply foul-play, I just mean fishy like it's too good to be true when a first time submitter wins a ribbon, and quite often there ends up being a DQ for some reason or another.

Your DQ really wasn't because of a date thing- it was really a vast conspiracy. Thirteen favorites in eight days made "them" fearful of your skills. (By them I mean the secret society that runs DPC- and I don't mean the SC) :)

I was wondering about language issues, too. It's entirely plausible that someone could know enough English to navigate DPC without fully comprehending the rules.

I agree completely! After my DQ I was accused of cheating, so I gues I'm a bit touchy about that subject :)

This is one of many reasons DPC needs a "Foreigner-Filter", guaranteed to keep pesky foreigners out of websites. Not to be confused with the "Foreigner Motel".

I like this idea, especially if it keeps the pesky Icelanders from entering challenges...........but they can still post the cool photos to their portfolios so we can see all the purty woman they have there.

You're not going to jump on the anti-Icelander bandwagon, are you?

EDIT: Damn, MattO, you beat me to it!
