We are all praying for y'all at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. We aren't expected to get too much bad weather, but as an RA in the first-year dorms we are way prepared! God bless

Maybe it was... but according to the Weather Channel, up to 40% stayed. Hopefully a drastic over-estimate as usually is the case. Seems several rescue attempts had to be called off by 9:00. Scary stuff.

How is a mandatory evacuation enforced?... Can't be easy.

Anyone watching Geraldo on Fox? What a fool standing out there for the sake of good drama. Not that the morons from CNN or the other channels are any better because they are standing out there too, But Geraldo has a way of overdoing his stories and he is right on par again with this one, Hopefully a big ole wave will transport his butt to South America.

Well, earlier today he fell into the water while holding a microphone WITH A CORD ON IT! I'm surprised the idiot didn't electrocute himself. What a joke!

lol, he's probably hoping for that kind of footage as well. Not watching it, but just picturing it is pretty funny.

Oh wait, just found him, holding on to a palm tree to keep from blowing away. Poor camera guys...

ETA OMG!!! He's an idiot.

Fox News just reported that about 90,000 stayed behind ... crazy! Geraldo is nuts too, standing right near the seawall, but I wouldn't expect any less from him.

Yeah, he's holding onto a palm tree for his life and talking about ZZ Top. Priceless.

Cyn .. we are going to get this stuff on Sunday! I'm so ready for a rainy day! Are you?

ETA .. I went shopping for the Numbers challenge today so I'll spend Sunday playing with that since we'll hopefully be rained in!

Sunday here is 86 degrees, 60% chance of rain (from Ike) .. I'll take it, we are bone dry and the water bill is killing me just for the front yard! I'm all for those 70's too!

Oooh .. you aren't too far from me, maybe one day we can meet up 1/2 way somewhere!
09/13/2008 01:32:11 AM · #89
We are bone dry too... and hot. Looking forward to flannels and sweatshirts :).

I would LOVE to meet somewhere!! We'll have to break the map out and find a cool halfway spot for this Fall... mayhaps a GTG?

Either way... RIP Geraldo. Really hope not, but he's gotten hit in the head by something twice in the past 20 minutes. DOH.

I think this winter will be hard so I'm just hoping for 70's and nice weather for awhile :)

A GTG would be great, especially in the fall! I'll break out a map this weekend and see what is out there that everyone would enjoy!

Geraldo has been sitting on the palm .. getting comfy until the eye passes over LOL He's good for the drama!

I do hope all in this storm are safe though ... I've watched it so long I feel like I can walk out the back door and it would be pouring rain with 70 mph winds! Must be a clue that it's bedtime! ;)

I'm looking forward to at least a week of 70s.

I'll get my map out, too.

I'm sure Geraldo will prove the DNA of several potential fathers before the eye passes. If he gets his way, he will have the camera crew out there as the other side of the eye passes. I hope they are smarter than he is.

a very large tree fell on our house and broke through into two bedrooms.

The roof is caved in on the east side of the house

Still very windy and raining

Family is safe

Going to be fun week

Local media reported that since they really can't go door-to-door to enforce a mandatory evacuation, the city officials let everyone know that when they said "mandatory," that means that if you choose to stay behind you are on your own. In the mandatory evac areas, there were more than 90k who chose to stay. Galveston's county courthouse has 3 feet of standing water in it, and they are trying to respond to more than 200 calls from last night from folks who chose to stay. So far there is only one death reported...a man standing on a pier was swept up in a wave near Corpus Christi.

One of the reporters in Galveston was doing a live shot from the fourth floor of a hotel by the seawall and they were taking in water in the stairwells and water was seeping out of the carpet under his feet.

Here in my county, closer to Dallas, we're told to expect 50 mph winds and 6+ inches of water between noon and midnight. It's still a cat. 1 hurricane and it's up between Huntsville and Lufkin already. Sheesh.

Everybody stay safe!

That sucks man, sorry to hear about the damage but glad to hear you're all safe.

That sucks, hopefully your insurance company is on the ball and gets you fixed up quick. Although this sounds strange. I think you may be one of the lucky ones. Some of the damage reports are pretty nasty, And This storm is still ripping. Good luck over the next few weeks. Hope it goes as well as it can for you and your family, neighbors etc...

Thanks for letting us know that everyone is safe.
Let us know if there is anything that we can do to help out from here. Morale support when the numbness wears off is most likely the best thing to have now. I hope that your image files are dry and safe.
We have huge oaks in our yard, and expect that someday the same fate will happen to our place. A bit limb went straight down through our hot tub during Wilma.
Happy to see that your iPhone is working,

It's great that you are all ok. It must have been a scary time. Will you be able to stay in your house or do you have to move out until repairs are done? Just keep in mind that you are all safe and it could have been worse, you are all very lucky. Take care.

Glad to hear that you and the family are all ok. Hate that your house has damage, but it's just stuff! Annoying stuff, but still stuff...Keep us posted! Kat

Hey, has anyone heard from Jaime???
09/13/2008 04:11:55 PM · #100
I've been glued to CNN and the Weather Channel for 2 days. My sister in law's house about 40 miles from Houston made it ok with some minor damage. My brother in law's trailer house is ok from what I've heard so far and he lives in the general area too.

I hope everyone will contribute to the Red Cross, particularly for the folks in Texas and Louisiana. Even 10.00 could help.
