First vote was an underserved 3, second vote was 7. Now, 6 votes in, 6.1667.
09/10/2008 12:45:52 AM · #30
Ai yi yi.. hanging at 5.4+ after 7 votes on a shot that I was pretty confident would have been hard-pressed to score under a 6.1 at the very least.

I'm going to bed and drowning my sorrows in a book until I pass out.

Score is immaterial at this point - Jutilda likes it!! That means I pretty much accomplished what I was trying to accomplish!

If you cannot see the forground in the photo, how would you know? So the short answer is no. Just having a small amount of dof is shallow dof. it does not have to show oof foreground and bg.

Indeed if you can not see the foreground how do you know the dof is shallow at all? Someone could have shot at F/45, cropped out the 4 miles of foreground in the shot and just entered an image showing the tail end of the focal plane and the oof areas beyond it. Devious bastards.

That is totally true. However it could also be shot taken with a bellows and have a mere 1/8" dof, but if there is nothing in the foreground, or perhaps shot through a fence where the foreground disappears completely....you would not know either. So the point is since I do not know in such case I give the photographer the benefit of the doubt. :)

Makes sense... thanks.

I finished voting (100%) and commenting (100%) on the Immovable challenge since I didnt take part in there. I am hoping the trolls would now return the favor and comment when they vote (its so easy to jump on someone when talking about more commenting, but not as easy to actually follow it themselves) ;-)

Shallow score, probably DoF not shallow enough.

I wouldn't mind but it's a technically sound image (sharp and I believe it has good lighting) and it's original (possibly it's downfall? I guess I should have taken a picture of a flower), it fits the challenge well with a good title and quite possibly is my best image to date, yet I've recorded 2x 2 votes and an 8 and a 9 grrr I know personal taste in an image plays a part but that's some pretty wild swings...

Yes I know I have been hitting the update button lots ;) my daughter has a temperature of 102 and has been ill everywhere on and off all night, so I'm caffine induced with less than 45 minutes sleep all night and I'm hitting the mouse button like a madman!

I guess I will have to wait until the 50 vote score to see what the majority think of it.
