Nibbles? "Eating is cheating..." or is that just on pub-crawls?

In the German Lounge, they were serving beer and brats, so I stopped by and ordered a beer.....I don't think they got it....maybe I should have invited them over for a pre-olympic drink. :)

So, we're due to start tomorrow, right?
I'm so confused by the scoring threads - can anyone give me a summary of how the scoring's going to work?
09/15/2008 10:25:22 AM · #34
It's okay now I'm here...

Let me see if I can help clear some things up.

When does this thing start...
- The first set of challenges will be announced after rollover on the 17th.

Scoring...
- Each team has a total of 8 members. The top 5 entries from each team will contribute to the teams over all average. The teams will then be given points depending on how they finish. The 1st place team will get 16 points and the 16th team will get 1 point. These points will be called DPCO-III Points on the score card.

"O" points (Olympic Points) are received from the members of a team entering the challenges. The more times that everyone enters the more "O" points that team will get.
Here's how it works.

- Let's say that team A's score has been calculated and all 8 members entered the first weeks challenges.
- For each member that enters that week they will recieve a total of 1 point. So the total for the week (if all 8 enter) would be 8 points. Then those 8 points are divided by 8 because you have 8 members on a team. So the overall team would receive 1 "O" point for entering the first weeks challenges.

- Now lets say that only 6 people had entered the first week of challenges. The over all member submissions would be worth 6 points. However their are still 8 people on the team so 6 divided by 8 is .75, So you wouldn't get the full extra point but only 3/4ths of the point.

What the "O" points do is keep the teams from having the exact same score. In the long run if all the members on a team entered it could raise your team to the top if other teams don't have as many entries. However the in the end it really boils down to scoring well and getting the most points for coming in first.

The TOP person out of everyone playing in the DPCO-III will receive a free membership and a MVP award that you can post on your profile.

If you have any more ???'s post them here and I will come back and check on ya.

How do you determine the TOP person?

By the overall average at the wnd of the 12 weeks. If you look at last seasons Olympics you will see that techo ended up with an overall average of 6.4992 and he would have won a free membership if we did this last year.

So, "Bummer" or "Colour in B & W". I'm tempted to go for the Colour in B & W just so I don't get lost in the crowd in the bummer challenge.

At least they're better than "Risk" and "Safety"... was totally uninspired with both of those themes.

I'm leaning more towards the B&W option.

I am pleased to see that Joe sorted out your questions. And it we have a good choice of starting entries for the Olympics...so buckle down folks...and get your entries in....even to help get the 'O' point....so start shooting.

I wonder if B&W will be full of olypians trying to stand out from the "Bummer" rush.
I have a couple of ideas, good luck guys and happy snapping!

I just really hope we don't get any 'mooning' shots in the bummer challenge :P

Been thinking the same thing! It's a toss up which way to go.

OK, I've done a backflip and submitted to the bummer challenge. Not sure how this one will go. Compositionally strong I think, but might be seen as a bit of a shoehorn. Still have a few days to change my mind if I come up with something brilliant :)
