Is it just me, or does everyone seem to have really low scores for this challenge...?

I just got another 3... so I am lingering below 4.. with 0 comments after 17 votes. This is going to be another fun week with trolls! Now I am starting to understand why commenting is such a sensitive topic on DPC: not many like to do that:-)

I'm tempted to find time to comment on the whole challenge. I see a lot of pictures with, e.g., blown out skies or highlights. Unless those details are enhancing the effect of the picture (significantly) then I see no reason to accept it as an overexposed photograph.

Then again, if I comment dnmc then I'm the devil, right?

Now this:

for example...

I guess I should have used a faster shutter speed and a smaller aperture. Come to think of it, the ISO was a bit high, too. Stupid of me.

If you ask me, the shot you take, is right from your perspective, but may not be right for 100% of the viewers. Somebody said on these forums last week, about conforming to mass taste versus doing what you feel is right. Both are important, I guess. In my short stay here till date, I have noticed many entries that a few rated top notch, but they didnt get the ribbons. In fact it was interesting to note that ratings for other's images that came with a comment (from commenters), complied more with my expectations. Does that mean that the votes of those commenting alongside, are more reliable? I dont know... something to note and explore:-)

I am not too sure from my very brief experience here, but commenting (esp. critical commenting) is discouraged indirectly... I have seen at least a few people getting highly emotional after reading critical comments, and retorting back aggressively. I would still say, please comment, let them come. We need to learn, and comments are one good way to do so.

... oh well, I was kind of sad for the terrible average, but it seems like I'm not the only one!

Looking at your most recent 120 comments made, I find not a one in which you have distilled the entire response to "DNMC". Sorry, but you don't qualify as the devil after all. When "DNMC" is the only content in a comment, the recipient may feel unjustly dismissed by someone who is to "busy" (rude?) to bother with any actual comment. If an entry is only high key, or just has a blown out background, or is overexposed in a way that makes the image worse instead of better, then say so explicitly. I have actually had people thank me for constructive criticism when I give specifics, so fear of anything other than positive fluff is not universal here.

I am really shocked at this score. I think that's it's a beautiful image and the overexposure enhances that.

Maybe I just suck at life *shrugs*

ditto ... started out at 7.0 last night, went to bed with the score at 6.4 ... now I'm at 5.3 ??? Not sure what is going on with this roller coaster ride!

I entered this shot knowing that I was flirting with the DNMC crowd. Sorry to say but I was correct. I will admit that the overexposed area is small and acts more as an anchor point in the image than as part of the main subject. But I do think my overexposed area adds to the image artistically. I think this is one of the best shots I have entered at DPC.

This is not the end of the better half of the world..and you are doing much better than I am. Like this great soul once said: "when you feel sad, look down unto the ones who have less than you do". So look at me and be happy:-)
