Petrified forest for one. It's a good hike from Phoenix but you can mix it in with the Grand Canyon outing.

We visited Page this summer, and you certainly wouldn't regret spending some time there -- absolutely incredible! It's central to the Antelope slot canyons, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell and Glen Canyon. Just an amazing area.

Ditto that. The Page area is a close second to the Grand Canyon on my favorite places in Arizona list. While there also hit "the wave", buckskin gulch, wirepass, Paria canyon, Paria Movie set... You could easily spend a week there. Best food in Page is "The Dam Bar and Grill."

Really? I didn't hear that. Ironic as it burnt down once before and was rebuilt from photos... Still a beautiful location to visit though!

It really sucked, they did such a great job rebuilding it and then.....

Fire Destroys Replica Movie Set in Kanab
August 26th, 2006 @ 9:46pm

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Replica buildings of a Kanab-area movie set made famous in westerns of the 1960s were destroyed by fire Friday night, the Bureau of Land Management said.

A wooden-framed saloon, mercantile, post office and another building caught fire about 3 p.m. and burned to the ground, BLM spokesman Larry Crutchfield said.

The cause of the fire remained unknown and investigators were trying to determine if it had been intentionally set, he said.

The buildings were erected in 2000 by Kane County residents and constructed as look-alikes of sets built for the production of the Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra "Rat Pack" western "Sergeants 3." The sets were located near the original Paria movie set, 40 miles east of Kanab.

"The rebuilding of the set was a community effort, and (the fire) hurts the whole community," Crutchfield said.

A traveler paying a visit to the sets Friday told authorities he saw a tan, late model pickup truck driving away from the area just as he arrived and spotted the fire, Crutchfield said.

More than 200 movie westerns have been filmed in the Kanab area, including the 1924 silent film "Deadwood Coach" starring Tom Mix. The saloon and mercantile were also featured in Clint Eastwood's "The Outlaw Josey Wales."

This reminded me my very old - 1976 - T.G.I.Friday´s menu [thumb]717580[/thumb]. It´s all hand written and with a lot of sketchs.

The Wave has very restricted visitation now:

Permits: Day use only. Cost is $5 per person. Limited to 6 people in a group. Each group constitutes one permit. No more than 20 individuals will be allowed daily access into this area - 10 from walk-in permits and 10 from submitted applications. Walk-in permits are available by applying in person for next-day hikes. From mid-March to mid-November permits will be issued at the Paria Contact Station. From mid-November to mid-March, the Paria Contact Station is closed and permits are issued at the Kanab Field Office.

I always liked that pic! When you're coming to AZ from BRAZIL! in comparison, it's not that far. But as I mentioned before, it is a pretty good hike so plan several days for Grand Canyon and the surrounding stuff.

If you get farther south, we found Bisbee to be a pretty interesting place. It's an old copper mining town, and really liked it. We also went to Tombstone, but found that to be mostly a tourist trap. Northern Arizona is really beautiful like others have mentioned, but the southern desert area is beautiful as well.

Thereza, I hope you have a good time here. Phoenix is a huge city with a lot of compelling sights. There are five mountain parks within the city. Check out Camelback Mountain, Squaw Peak Mountain, Papago Park. Here's some info. Just north of Phoenix are Cave Creek and Carefree - beautiful desert landscapes, funky little restaurants, galleries, art shows...

Downtown Phoenix has some amazingly interesting architecture and wonderful restaurants. Make sure to visit the Heard Museum, which is completely unique and specific to the geography and history here. The Phoenix Art Museum is also downtown and currently featuring an Edward Weston exhibit - he's a Mexican photographer.

While you're here, you should definitely check out some of the Mexican cuisine - Los Dos Molinos is a good one, as well as Barrio Cafe. And there are many others, of course. Grab a New Times outside of a cafe or grocery store, or just check out the online version. They have an extensive listing of events, sights, restaurants, places-to-go, etc.

If you are going to Sedona, you can check out Prescott and Jerome in one swoop. Each town very unique with its own fantastic vegetation and landscapes. Feel free to get in touch if you have questions.
