That is one of the comments I just got for my wheels submission. I know that I might not be the best on here and I might not have given out alot of comments but when I do give one I try to make it a little better than "Been Done". If you are going to comment, I wish people would think about it a little better.

Wow! I feel better now. Sorry to all who have heard this before. I try not to say anything and take it personal but "Been Done".

This rant has "been done" before
LOL - ok I'm sorry, just couldn't help myself.
And yes, I totally agree with you. We've all had comments like this

I think all comments are really helpful cause it shows you how people think about your photo, what this comment might teach you is that you should mabey try to be more original next time, aim higher mabey ;)

Yes, I will consider that! But a wheel is a wheel. LOL, just kidding!
I still can laugh!

"Been Done" is such a stupid comment since the number of options you have with a theme like "Wheels" is really limited...

I don't understand why people leave really dumb comments...ALL THE TIME! I mean sure, we have made a couple of comments that we may regret I am sure, I mean I do, but it just seems all too common anymore. I mean, I have been reading a lot of comments recently on most pictures and there tends to be a high perecentage of unthoughtful, rude, and mean-spirited comments.

I do also realize that a LARGE handful of people leave really helpful and sightful comments, and I commend you all and want to thank you. Really, most of you reading this are most likely the group of people who leave awesome comments. Those who are in the forums generally post amazing comments because they spend quite a bit of time on this site and know what its about.

and I'm sure its not the last time we will get that comment, but hey a wheel is a wheel and it must be impossible to take a picture of a 'unique' wheel! My submission is not your average wheel but am sure its been photographed before. Jeez, if the challenge was "egg" how may times would we see "been done"?

Of my 5 comments in 'wheels' 4 have been helpfull critisism and the 5th reflected what I was after - memories.

Hey! You took a picture of a cat! "Been Done"
A Flower! "Been Done"
A Person! "Been Done"
The list could go on and on! LOL

I think all that talk about bad comments in the forums scares people off to make comments, the comments are getting fewer, people might be afraid to make comments cause they cant make a "perfect" comment, lighten up :D
(wish I knew how to make these smiley guys)

You could, of course, check out The Egg challenge, and count them? :-)

I think that people should keep on commenting. I take every comment and try to apply it to how I take pictures. They help me alot. Just had to vent a little!

I am done!

I don't mind seeing the comments becoming fewer as long as the quality is increasing, I look at it as decluttering really. I prefer quality over quantity.

I would agree that “been done” is a little lacking in details. However a lot of people wish that someone giving them a low score would at least leave some indication as to why they are leaving the low score. At least in this case you know why one person did not like you photo even if it was not the most constructive comment. If you want to get the most out of a comment like “been done” you need to translate it into something like “a nice photo but I would really have liked to have seen a different take on this theme”. Not knowing which your photo is it is a bit hard to know if this comment would really apply.

There are a lot of very similar photos in this challenge but a few of them really stand out above the rest in terms of the artistic effect of the photo, if your is one of these then “been done” is a rather silly comment. Still it gives you insight to one voter.

BTW mine is not one of the ones that really stands out.

I once took a workshop from a famous nature photographer, think it was Galen Rowell. One of his comments was: "If you take a picture of just the head of a rarely seen exotic animal, the comments would be, 'Too bad you didn't show the whole animal.' On the other hand if you take a picture of a whole well-known animal, say a deer, the comment would be 'It would have been better if you showed only the head and ears popping above the grass.' That's because people are used to seeing picture after picture of deer, and you need to find your own way of shooting one to make it unique."

If that's what the comment "been done" was supposed to mean.... two words say a lot.

And I totally disagree the subject "wheels" or even "egg" can only be done a limited number of ways. It is limited ONLY by your imagination in either case.

BUT its the viewer that comments, not the photographer, and a lot of the posts in here are made by photographers complaining that the viewer doesnt have 'view'
And as faidoi's comment implies, quite often the commenters comment could have been better written?

True Faidoi, all the more reason people should try and glean something from each comment. They ARE telling you what they think of your shot. As Heidi said.

Obviously the commenter feels that once somebody has used a particular technique or photographed a particular subject it's patented and nobody else is allowed to try.

Faidoi makes it alot better in that sense. The score that I got was not that bad. The comment struck me odd!

True. I was just venting. Personally, I haven't had any rude or mean-spirited comments. I know that the majority of people are rather turned off by them though. I completely agree with you on the fact that they are indeed telling you something, there aren't very many places like this that can do that. I DO indeed look at all the comments that I receive and try to apply them as though they are trying to tell me something, without compromising my photography of course.
All I am trying to say is, if I had a comment to give, I generally tell people why I am saying what I am saying. True, they could be saying "been done," but that doesn't really tell me anything that could help me understand what the commenter is trying to say. In all truthfullness, I really try to interpret what the commenter is saying, I am always greatful for any comment because they took the time, even if it is one word, but those one word comments, in ALL reality, don't help me that much, though grateful for the comment, it doesn't HELP me. That's all I am really trying to say.

When you receive a comment like that, you should add that person to your 'does not matter' list for future comments. People who are that shallow don't really seem to understand the nature of photography or its purpose. You can generall go to their portfolios and see a lot of unique and intriguing photographs ;)

I try (and might be beginning to make progress)at leaving 'good' comments. It is tempting (aka easy / human nature) after looking at 250 pics of wheels to get teh feeling that you've seen it before, regardless of what you are looking at, and make some off the cufff comment.

I got this comment from a newbie...
"ok... so we have wheels in this shot... but no story behind them... the title does not help either, so all we have left is the sharpness of the picture..."

Interesting, no? you all got stories behind your pics, right? Now how do I improve my picture with this new insight?

This is all I can think of at the moment :)

My new response/comment/quote is

"Off-centrings will allow, without changing point of view, to tally the subject in entirety by avoiding convergence towards the break point of the vertical lines upwards in low-angle shot and downwards in diving"

That is from Babelfish, an attempt to translate a photography techniqe from French to English. Only the accent came through. LOL

So you have a story with your wheel. I know someone whom might give it a 10! Interesting shot..why did you take it? (aka what is the story behind the pic )

Just a fun attempt to help out a fellow 602`er with an answer to his problem of.. how do you capture a picture of a wheel with a story behind it. ??? (Taken 5mins after reading your posting)
