I have a suggestion for a new challenge. To those who enter photos and have more votes and comments received than cast, you should try to flip the scores and be sure and PARTICIPATE too! If you enter a challenge, then you should AT LEAST vote on the fellow entries in the entered challenge. It doesn't take that long to go through and vote on at least 20% one day, and then try to knock out the rest before the voting is over. And you can always go back and comment on those you feel the urge to.

Just a suggestion and something that really bothers me!!!

Uh oh, busted. I have had a recent fall-off in the fullness of my participation, first caused by a balky internet connection, and more recently by changes in my work schedule. I don't think I've fallen below your threshold yet; maybe the Spring weather and start of baseball season will prove re-invigorating ...

It's nice to know honest people!!!
And no GeneralE, you are not among the population that I so speak of. I was just looking at a few of the entries and members and noticed that some have entered pictures and had not voted at all nor left any comments - and I see so many that have twice received what they do cast.

I have fallen off a little as well, but in rebellion to never receiving many comments. I have been trying to pick back up though because it bothers me somewhat and I would have no ground to complain if I were part of the problem.

I have made an effort to get mine 50/50 basis...and I am almost there.
I probably was there earier today...but got some comments on a current contest.

I've also haven't contributed too much to in way of comments. Still holding on to 1.3 comments for every 9 votes, but 1,000 more comments then I've received.

I'd like to thank Justine for almost giving a comment on every picture this year. Ever closer to 10,000 comments to her name.

Until I got ADSL a month back, I found it really tough to vote that much. The download time for 300 photos adds up.

Now, I can happily say:

Votes cast - 4201
Votes received - 3976

Comments given - 777
Comments received - 301

It really is good to know that so many people responded to this with honesty. I hope the community will try harder to help those of us in need of help with our photos. Even if you don't know much about photography (like me), your opinions still count.

I never really thought about the dial-up problem either - that put some viable reason behind many of the non-voters/commenters. I am used to high-speed. I work at a fiber optic company and have had a cable modem for quite some time. And most of my friends are either on the company network or have cable/dsl networks.

I promise to try and keep voting on every challenge (whether or not I enter) and comment on more than my usual 10-15%.

Personally, I find it much more comfortable to vote on challenges I didn't enter ... that way I know I have no hidden agenda. If you see your score plummeting when you thought you were onto a winner, it's difficult to remain detached enough to vote fairly. And likewise when you're doing well, the temptation to vote others down is hard to resist.

This is why I keep my scores turned off on my home page - though the number of comments is always a rough guide, anyway.
