lots of pixels on a small sensor equals lots of noise....

Pixel parts is pixel parts. And noise. Low light is tough on most of the P&S cams, due to processing ability and not so fast lenses. I like the 5X optical zoom on the Sony, and have had good experiences with Sony Handicams over the years.

Every item I buy from Sony has to go to repairs within a year. Avoid it like the plague.

What bassbone said is true. The smaller the pixel site on the sensor, the less light it is able to gather, so the weaker the signal is compared to the background noise of the sensor itself.

In short: lots of small pixels on a small sensor equals more noise than the same number of larger pixels on a larger sensor (all other things being equal).

Although I own a Sony laptop (so far, no problem, hopefully, it will go on), I tend to agree with Azrifel.

I don't think Sony can compete with the major other companies (e.g., Canon, Nikon), especially regarding the optics. They are probably one of the major companies for electronic devices, but that's it. Their experience is rather limited regarding the optics, and the experience gap they need to fill to be at the same level is way too large.

We will see how it goes with the newly introduced FF Sony camera, but I doubt pros will be ecstatic about it, they will probably go either Canon or Nikon simply because both companies 'share' an incredible amount of knowledge. Time will tell though.
