What about a nightly shot taken with a long exposure time? Will that qualify for over exposure category?

This might do better in the current challenge than it did in the one I entered it in. LOL.

FWIW...
My predicions: Voting / Scoring on this one is going to be a toss up. You'll have DNMC nazis, trolls etc. all over the place. We'll see comments like "That's high-key, not overexposed.", "Sorry, your highlights are blown", and "over-overexposed. 1"

Recommendations: Overexposed, but not blown, make sure the overexposure compliments the image and that the image is still technically solid (focus, etc) AND make sure the final image has DPC mass appeal and/or some WOW factor OR... just pay Irene to shoot for you. ;-)

Somebody just moved the goalposts again (but for good reasons):

Create a photograph that is purposefully overexposed for its effectiveness

The dnmc lawyers will be burning the midnight fossil fuels cracking that one.

Overexposure is overexposure, although you and I just might have different ideas about how to expose any given shot. It has to mean something like significantly over the exposure one would expect a camera set to automatic exposure to produce. Note to dnmc lawyers: 'significantly' here refers to an overexposure that is obvious to those who see the picture.

What might get the midnight fossil fuel crisis to spill over into something like global conflict, is that certain parts of the picture need to be, if not properly exposed, then at least properly enough to retain a recognisable visual presence in the picture. Anything else would bring the 'I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking at' zombies out of their lairs as sure as eggs is eggs.

I won't suggest pre-emptive retaliation, but we should be prepared. Do we have some environmentally friendly way to burn villages, Art?

I just took a practice shot for the Dolls and Puppets contest, it's totally overexposed but actually doesn't look bad......now I'm tempted to enter it into the Overexposed challenge instead!

Okay, back on topic, what about overexposing in post-processing? I can do some wild things in levels and curves -- blown highlights and such. Does this count? Will anyone even know?
08/28/2008 10:42:30 PM · #39

Would you call that overexposed?

I just call it perfect =)

Thanks for reminding me of one of Martin's wonderful works of art. it is a shame he does not drop by here anymore, he is a great photographer, although it helps to have your GF be the hottest fetish model in the world.... or maybe his photography helped her become the hottest fetish model in the world...I am getting confused now....must...get....beer...

Will you? How? Do you care? Is it still overexposed or is it something else? Is overexposing necessarily something you do with the camera?

What a coincidence... Bianca was on a local radio today here in Montreal promoting a Fetish Show this weekend. As soon as they mentionned her name I did think of Martin and how long it was since he participated in a challenge.

Certainly overexposed. DrJones shot was perfectly exposed, no loss of detail anywhere.

edit: i take it back, maybe some blow out on the back of her hat in drjones shot. Enough to be missed at a glance, enough to garner a bunch of dnmc's...
