I think my entry is better than this score, but I also expected this.

Bowl must be upright. Do not include anything else as part of your subject. Have fun and be creative!".....

Your bowl appeared a tad on the blue side to me. I took a sample of the color on your bowl and it is showing (0,251,10). Green should be (0,255,0). Sorry, but DNMC 1.

Just woke up to a stellar 5.1 - hardihar.

Juliet, we should have a contest who lands higher or lower by tenths or hundredths. :op

Here ya go, one roadblock to order. Too bad I shot this in February and didn't even think of recreating such an image for this challenge.

So many roads I don't know which way to vote :)

I can't complain, heading for a new PB and I already have a comment (so far...)

That's funny, I write poetry and often enter pictures with an 'amusing' interpretation of the challenge theme, but it hardly occurred to me for this challenge to do anything other than enter a picture of a road less travelled.

Metaphors have a tenor and a vehicle, the vehicle being the thing that's said and the tenor being the thing that isn't. For me (especially in this case), a picture of the vehicle still presents a metaphor.

I'm not condoning the dnmc'ers, mind...

Well, many people are not understanding my metaphor, but some are, so I am on a roller coaster with lots of 3's and 4's, a few 6's and a couple of 10's as well. Totally expected.

This being my first time making an entry, I have to say that thus far I am discouraged. Not because of my score, but because of the score coupled with a lack of comments that address why.

My feeling is that people are not appreciating my creative interpretation - actually, I am sure of it based on the other poster's sentiments about this being "Literal DP Challenge."

Should I give up on metaphors?

Dallas, the lack of comments is a common complaint and just something one has to get used to on the site. One way to start is to make a lot of comments yourself. People may reciprocate retroactively.
As for abandoning metaphors, much depends on whether you are shooting for yourself or for the voter. Stick around awhile before you make any decisions.

No. However, you will find that if the relation to the topic is not obvious to a 5 year old, you will get low voted for it. If there is any way for someone to interpret the challenge topic differently than you did, it will happen. I am not expecting any of the metaphoric images or references to the previously discussed book to score highly. Sometimes I am happy with appealing to just a handful of voters. Comments are only easy to come by if you have a fantastic shot, a funny one, or one that is abysmally bad.

The solution BTW, is to be one of those people that leaves lots of comments, and make effort to leave them on the 4's and 5's.

Yep, that is doing pretty bad for you, but right now I'd be happy to have a 5.04. Just got slammed with a few more 3's on a shot I thought was worth at least a low 5. I'm taking it as a lot of "I don't get it".

Now you know why the canal you just jumped into is called 'the canal less swum' - it's because there are no life jackets handy.

Hang on, here's an old tractor tyre.

I second that.

Well I would be interested to see the images of the voters who seem to know all the rules and the basis of the challenge. If they are such experts...then there image should be perfect....!

But that's the glorious, rare, Unterbraun! It may not be what you were hoping for, but not a lot of people ever get one.
