Remember the Vivitar camera & optical company? It is no more, in the same way that Polaroid and Pentax companies no longer exist - they are just brand names.

Two years ago Vivitar was bought by Syntax-Brillian.

Last month, Syntax-Brillian filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

On August 25, 2008 the Vivitar brand name and intellectual property were bought by Sakar Corporation, makers of what seems to be mostly low-end dreck.

The Vivitar web site is now just a place holder for "future announcements".

Now if only the SC will correct the spelling in the thread title... DOH!
