I bought a Pentax istD recently and have many images rendered useless by getting "green slimed."

This occurs in areas of bright contrast. Outdoor and indoor alike. I get it in specular highlights on indoor flash photos.

I took a series of the same outdoor scene at ISO ratings of 200/400/800/1600 in order. Worst at 200 and then non-existent at 1600.

Any ideas??

That is just plain weird.

I have no idea what causes this, but I would return that camera soooo fast!

Get it replaced or fixed.

I don't own a DSLR and don't know much about them but I would think that the lens may not be secured and light is seeping in without going through the lens.

Did you try setting it back to the default settings?

try using another lens to see if thats what the problem is. I would definately take it to a shop while it's still under warranty

Thanks for the posts so far.
I did try different settings, different lenses and upgraded the firmware. All to no avail.

I am awaiting a reply from Pentax. I am still withion the 30 nday return limit. If i get no satisfaction from the Pentax reply I will return for refund.

I now suspect defective CCD.

My advice: Return it, take the cash, and start over. If it's broken and Pentax offers to fix it, you will have to wait; if they offer you a replacement, chances are it will be a refurb (at least that's how the computer industry works). Take the money, walk out of the store, buy it somewhere els so you can start another 30 day's with return privileges again (often if you exchange, you lose this privilege). If it does it again, return it again and buy something else!

Just my 2 cents worth.

you might try sending a message to some of the people here at DPC that own the camera. i was interested in the Pentax for a while and i talked with Lafaminit. he seemed perfectly happy with it and didn't say anything about having this problem.

if no one else is having problems like this then i would suggest taking the camera back for a replacement.

I tried two different lenses and had same results. I made sure that I mounted the lenses correctly and that they were secure. Thanks.

Thanks Sher. I have sent the camera back with request for a replacement. I researched the camera fairly thoroughly. Aside from some minor shortcomings which I could live with, all the reviews were positive.

I would like to venture into a Nikon or Canon BUT I have such an investment in 35mm lenses with Pentax that I can't. I own 2 Pentax 35mm which have been great workhorses.
