Hello all DPchallengers,

I'm fairly new... and *deep breathe* I just submitted my first Challenge.
Is there always this sort of excitement?

Looking forwards to tips and pointers!

Thanks!
Colleen

Not always. Sometimes it's more like... a feeling of impending doom. :D

Welcome to DPC Colleen, and good luck with your challenge!

Welcome Leenie, good luck with the challenges! I am pretty new too. I haven't had the displeasure of feeling impending doom yet , but I am sure it will come...lol.

Hi, i'm only two weeks old... I've entered 6 challenges so far... at first I had the excitement, but now i know what you mean about impending doom... i'm addicted to hitting that update button, i hit it like every 10 minutes... I'm teaching a split grade 9/10 math class starting on tuesday and I can't get any planning done because I can't stop hitting that update button to check my results... I almost wish that the update button only worked like every 6 hours... then i wouldn't be checking it so often...

If at first if you do bad (hopefully you will do great) don't be depressed... check the profile of the winners and then you will know why they won... it takes time to get better... If you have time, try to enter all the challenges... i feel that every one i have entered since I started is getting a bit better (which means nothing coming from a newbie like me...) I found it helpful to cruise through the challenge history and read the writeup for any of the interesting pictures I came across (there are LOTS OF THEM!!!) you can learn a lot about what equipment / lighting they used and what editing they did...

Good Luck!!!

Hi newbies Leenie and Shutter!

Welcome to the crazy, wonderful world of dpc...I am some kms southeast of Ottawa, but there are a few kicking around our nation's capital. I may be brave and organize another gtg (get-together) with some other local dpcers. I'll drop you a line and let you know.

In the meantime, don't be intimidated, just enter challenges and have fun. Learn from the criticques; I find that if at least half my comments say basically the same thing, like if a photo's out-of-focus (oof) or blurry, they're probably right! :-)

Oh yes, and Shutter? You can turn off the Update button, if you so choose :-)

hmmmm... i can turn it off eh? buuuut do I want to? now, that is the question...

BTW, I am located in Toronto, Ontario (10 minutes from the downtown core...)

You will notice that lots of my pictures include the CN tower... it's an easy subject =P

ok... lets try this out... how do i turn the update button off... i can't figure it out...
08/03/2008 09:31:15 PM · #10
ah ha! I figured it out... honestly, i feel relieved... now i can go in and change it back like once a day so i dont' go crazy checking it over and over... thanks! =)

drydoc, thanks for the welcome :)

Nevorian, good luck with the challenges as well :)

snaffles, awesome, another Ottawa contact. Definately will be up for outings. It would definately help for sure with my confidence and learing the local photography community as well. Stay in touch :)

Shutter-For-Hire, wow, 6 challenges already? Can you enter all of them at once? I was under the impression that it was only 1 at a time. (newbie here) That is a great idea... maybe I'm easing into it a bit too slowly, I mean... the only way to get ahead is to practice practice practice huh?

I'm going to visit your profiles right now :)

well... i entered HOT (which is over), I have submissions currently in Lawn, Cardboard Box, and July Free Study, and I just submitted Pics for Fallen and Morning II

They aren't winners... but practice makes perfect... =)

Lol, winning a challenge ain't easy, but it sure as hell is fun trying to do it! Besides, on the way, you learn so much. You can start a forum thread on virtually anything at all related to photography (though you may want to do a search first to see if any recent threads on the subject have been posted) and get helpful responses.

Hey Shutter, my bro lives in downtown TO too. Should be visiting him the end of this summer/early fall, so I'll try to scare up basssman7, Quigley, kashi and DarkRider - they btw are also members of Team Suck - and see if they're interested in a TO gtg.

And you probably recognize this:

Hi, I am from Toronto and it just so happens, that I am enroute to Ottawa right now.

Its a week of vacation in the RV, with one of the dogs, and my cameras. It should be fun and relaxing.

Cheers,
Michael

hey, yea put me on the "PM" list for possible downtown Toronto get-togethers... like a day of shooting pics downtown or something... sounds cool...

Sure thing Bujanx, the more the merrier! *adding Kurt's name to list*

If you wouldn't mind another newbie...I would love to join a group in GTA in the fall. I find it hard to find people to shoot with...I haven't run into anyone from the Windsor area. There seems to be quite few from Ontario now on dpc. Toronto is a great central location for a gtg. I really need the practice.

Yes, this idea sounds great, so I would like to participate as well if I can match the date to my work schedule. Please add my name to the list.

Cheers,
Michael
