Missed out on a couple of days, but I'll post this one for today :)

Since the start of this side challenge I have been in a love/hate relationship with the remote for my camera. I never liked the darn thing since I bought it for my first digital camera 6 years ago. I even bought a new battery last week to see if it would communicate with my camera a little better. Nope, nothing improved. Ever since a health issue in 2002 that nearly killed me I no longer let things aggravate or stress me out. So the little bugger ended up between my hammer and a brick wall. RIP!

Are the remotes for Nikons and Canons buggy? With my now old remote I had to be between 16 and 22 and a half degrees facing east on a windless day and pointing the thing at the camera for 20 seconds before anything happened. So much frustration in waiting, smiling and not going off, losing the smile, smiling again, trying the remote with no result, losing the darn smile again, pressing like crazy for it to go off....smile, press press. grr

I now use the timer but the camera focuses when you press the shutter button so I can't press, get in position, let the camera focus, smile and move on to another pose. I have to manually focus it but you all know what results you get that way.

What are you guys doing?

I'll probably end up buying a wired shutter release but I am almost 100% sure that my local camera store will not have one for Olympus and I'll have to buy it from Oly at 500% more than a Nikon or Canon would cost. Are there companies that make them for all cameras? Generics?

Thanks, didn't think I would write so much about a stupid remote.

cheers

Day 9

Forgive the sloppy edit (and the fact that I "repeated" a set of sunglasses - however, I think it still gets the point across... :-)

I use Nikon's MC-36. Wouldn't be able to do self portraits (and other work) without one. In addition to the shutter release, which works just like the one on the camera, it has a timer that I can program to take from one to unlimited shots in a series, delay between shots as long as I like, delay before the start of the series for as long as I like, and more. It activates auto-focus on AF lenses just before shooting a frame. I combine it with the A/V out on the D300 to frame some of my shots (though none of the ones in the current SP series).

Thanks Louis. I just got home and will start my search for the Oly equivalent.

At 33.5 inches long I find that short. I hope the OLy one has the same features too. An intervalometer is something I have always wanted on my cameras.

Kind of cheated and used one from yesterday, but I worked on it today, so it's only sort of cheating! :)

Day 10 - Catz! (~!$@#$!@)

So here's the way it was gonna be... Throw down Red Runner (long piece of carpet I got in the garage), doh! the thing is dirty and smelly so better go a different route. Hey let's fold up a sheet with pink hearts on it to look like a runner. Okay here comes the easy part...cute pink cat stroller on the makeshift rug with one of the catz, who loves to ride in the stroller, all cool looking.

NOPE...That's right they are catz and they do what they want to when they want to. So I parked a chair at the end of the pink thing and shot. Bridgett did come by to play.

Day 11 - Garage Band

Well the mystery man came over...and said I'm out of sight.
For a nominal service charge I can reach nirvana tonight... opps different story.

For those playing along at home, the amp looks like a Crate because it is a Crate CR-1 the first crate amp SLM (Parents of Crate Amps) put out...I blowed it out and they sent me Schem's for it (nice people). Tremolo is white cause I blowed it out and had to put a Kahler Pro on it. Bridgett (Cat) isn't playing cause she don't have thumbs and the Siggies on the Ibanez are some band called Blink something or other :)

Day 11 - Remember when...

$13K would by you a big powerful box with (2) 550Mhz CPU and 6 drives when striped out (with parity of course) formated out to 30G of space and we called it file store? Problem here is, I can't just toss the drives as there is Co. data on them they need to be shredded.

Recently my rack mounted, 4.3TB formated, Quad Xeon cost just under $5K. Technology moves fast, in Cat years the two servers are about 1 year a part.

Anyone need a boat anchor?
