3 challenges and you're already complaining about the voters. Voters are people, like yourself, who are here to learn and post their efforts. It's a learning curve that is different for everyone. The voters are not professional judges that do this full time and have the energy to write suggestions for every image they view. They are parents, employees, sons and daughters who have a love for photography and come here to enjoy their passion.

Please think about what you say about the people you are hanging with on this site who just happen to vote on your photos and enjoy doing it.

A lack of comments on an image usually means something....

The day you actually score that high, no one will believe you. What a long week that'll be trying to convince us you're not fibbing once again. lol

Well if you know what it means please tell me. The only sure fire way I know to get lots of comments is to make a humorous photo, as folks love to comment on them. To the original poster (that jac was replying to) , do not worry, be happy, getting high votes and comments is nice but remember that your are shooting photos for your self, not to please everyone else. Even the ribbon winners get bad votes and comments.

Was 5.4 after 25 votes (people must be grumpy about the site being down this morning!)

Do not misunderstand my point. I am not concerned about WHAT the vote is, the point is that I hear others talking about all the comments that they get and how it helps them improve, my problem is that I'm not getting any comments so I don't know what I should be thinking about as I undertake the task of improving my photos(that's why i joined as do many). From reading many of the threads here it is clear that there is a strong focus on super precise photos and things like over exposure or soft focus or Bokeh are not well received when compared to photos that are fully focused with razor precision and huge DOF. My point was that sometimes the person producing the photo allowed the effect ON PURPOSE to help tell the story or set the mood.

I am not being critical of anyone just expressing any opinion that there is more to photography than razor sharp focus, photos are are bout feelings and stories and people should consider that when voting.

As to what lack of comments means please do enlighten us because it is not really clear to me.

I have a theory on that.

When you get to the point where you are doing an average (for DPC) image, people are a lot less likely to comment. They don't really see anything WRONG with it (like when you're doing low 4s for example... lots of comments then) and they don't that inspirational "AWE, I have to comment."'ness to it.

So, few comments means, you're not doing to bad. Specially considering the competition.

All just IMHO.

This is starting to get serious, and much harder to not get excited. :)

Thanks, David and Alice.

Apparently FocusPoint found me because I just got a 3. ;) (good going, Leo, on your score!)

Aaaand ... now a 4 after that.

ohhh God, mine is taking such a beating, that if this was a UFC fight, they would have stopped it already =(

I hope mine can get back up. Can I make up .15 or more after 99 votes? Guess I'm out of the side challenge.

I'd say yes, very possible. Still another 100 votes to come in I would guess.

Uh oh, going down...

Not a lot of voters for this challenge. Maybe people are waiting 'til the end.
