Can you explain in what way it is weak?

Your question prompted some testing and ultimately even more confusion. I started with an image that isn't perfectly exposed and seems to push some boundaries for the raw conversion tools. I imported the RAW image into DPP and Aperture and then exported to a web sized jpeg without any adjustments. I then launched the image in PS from Aperture and exported directly from there.
DPP -> [thumb]707391[/thumb] Aperture -> [thumb]707392[/thumb] Aperture and then PS -> [thumb]707404[/thumb] Lightroom -> [thumb]707508[/thumb]

There is a definite bug in the Aperture conversion that will create blotching cyan patches in overexposed areas, like around a light bulb. It's not obvious in one image, but compared to the 30D images in Aperture, the 40D images need more contrast added and more tweaking to get pleasing skin tones. Maybe it's not as weak as I was thought, but there is definitely more work required than with the 30D.

Have you tried it in the 30-day trial of Lightroom?

If I were you, I'd install that and the new camera profiles from Adobe and play with the profiles. See if there is one you like. It's quick, easy and there are instructions on my blog for using the color profiles.

Good luck!

My findings are that no RAW converter is perfect for all photos. That's one of the reasons I really like Lightroom and how it allows me to switch color profiles. Still not perfect, but it does give me some options.

I just added an image from Lightroom, with the default camera profile, to my previous post. That ability to have camera profiles is a distinct advantage for LR.

Loving the new Lightroom.

However, has anyone else gotten annoyed with the different effect used in the vignette after crop tool? Instead of exposure adjustment, it's a black/white mask...

Here's calling for bug reports/feature requests: here

I agree with you. But there are times when I like it. I would wish for the "method" it uses to be optional/selectable.

nice new avatar David!!!

Yes, I know what you mean, though I think the original style a little more classy, especially when it recovers color/blown highlights of the background (rather than greying them out).

One of the guys at Adobe said if you wish the feature, to put in the feature request (previous link above), so if you want, that would add weight to the request...

Anyone have the new camera calibration profiles working in 2.1RC?

I lost them when I installed the update. I tried reinstalling them, but it didn't work. I think they were a GREAT feature!

I do have another bug to report (it was in 2.0). The custom file naming editor doesn't allow you to put spaces in like LR 1.0. If you try putting a space between custome fields, it removes them as soon as you move your cursor. The workaround I've found is to go into the settings file directly and add them in. But it's inconvenient, because you have to find the file, edit it, quit LR and start it again to make a change.

Overall, LR2 is great! I just wish it supported PS plugins.

(Edited: Found that they wanted bug reports in the forums...)
