I just got word from the developer of LucisArt that the classic (ie, less expensive) version of the plug-in will again be offered for sale starting this Thursday (July 27, 2008)!

Heavy response to its discontinuation and the fact that the upcoming Lucis Pro 6.0 only runs on Intel and not PPC Macs (but of course Vista and XP) prompted this change in policy.

This is good news for those of you who were trying to find a copy of LucisArt but couldn't.

That's awesome. I know several photographers who wanted to buy it but found that it had gone waaaay up. I'll spread the word.

Never used this. Is it like an HDR app like Photomatix but with more options?

It has a few different features. You can go to their website and see samples of each. I'll post a few here for your pleasure (that I made):

These are kind of my signature processing, but all use a lot of Lucis Art Exposure or Wyeth. It pretty much brings out detail. And it's handy to use on underexposed photos.

All lovely examples Alicia. I left a comment or two. I guess this is like Photomatix where you can easily go overboard with the settings sometimes and achieve something that you weren't necessarily going for. Experience is key. Subtlety is sometimes only appreciated with it.

Ha I was going to suggest you check out Alicia's portfolio!

I have Lucis Arts. It's really a bunch of fun.

Here's one I did this weekend that I especially enjoy with Lucis Arts filter (Wyeth):

Well, well. Can I just chime in to say, "I told you so."? Can I buy some rust protection with that?

Here's a link to the thread where the price hike was announced.

And here's my post in that thread.

It looks to me like he's selling it through his website? This makes me feel as if he's a car salesman telling you that the price will go up tomorrow, so you'd better buy it today.

Looking at a few of his other posts, they are about software, but not always sales-oriented. I think he's a regular Joe who's just mostly interested in software. Which is fine by me.

HOWEVER...

I'll never, ever buy ANYTHING if the sales guy gives me a buy-it-now price.

Thanks to those who posted their LucisArt work! I especially liked the Lucis/Redfield Perfectum combo effect Alicia posted.

Strikeslip, things are not so sinister as you make them seem. The developer of Lucis Pro/LucisArt sent an email just this morning notifying of her change-of-mind regarding LucisArt (classic). I didn't see it coming; I only know what I am told and pass it on FYI.

It seems people came out of the woodwork once the original LucisArt plug-in was discontinued, asking to buy it when it was too late, so that factored into her decision. On various forums you could see people begging someone to sell them a copy, or transfer their license. Kind of like buZZ X and Art Master Pro, which did in fact disappear with no hope of return, despite how much people want them.

Regardless, I understand the original LucisArt will be offered "As is" with the option of paid tech support, for how long I don't know. This will allow the developer to offer something for non-Intel Macs (Lucis Pro 6.0 is Intel-only for Mac and XP/Vista).

LucisArt's renewed availability doesn't take away from what Lucis Pro is (it's newer, better and more compatible technology), but the second chance will make some people happy.

Update (as I try to keep up with news from the developer!):

The original LucisArt 2 is back until 9/1, after which it will be replaced by LucisArt 3.

Lucis Pro 6 is the top-shelf version.

So there are still choices, not just a pro version.

Turns out the old LucisArt 2 will be around at least until the end of this month.

The latest development regarding LucisArt 3 (planned for late September) is that there will be two different versions (Enhance Detail and Special Effects).

See more details at the top of the page and under the blue heading here.

These were all done using a technique that involved the use of LucisArt.

Any of you LucisArt peeps try to transfer the application to a new computer? I am having difficulty locating my product key, and am loathe to pay tech support to help me find it if there is a way to locate it in the registry of my older computer.

I dunno...I transfered mine but I had the key. Sorry!

This does NOT work on Photoshop 7.0, right? (hoping I'm wrong and that it really would work for me)

Try downloading this to your old computer. Once you run it, it will show you all of your software licenses. :) Good luck.

Thanks (and for the PM, too!) but there is no joy in L2's world with this. It found tons of stuff, but not LucisArts. Magical Jelly Bean didn't work either. Any other ideas?

Try here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Image Content Technology\LucisArt

If that doesn't work, and this one may be obvious and you may have already done it, but search your email for the string "serial number"

My computer crashed and I needed to reinstall LucisArt on my new computer, but lost the key. I emailed the company and they sent me the key...no problems, no charge. They had a record of my purchase on file. They were very helpful, very kind and very quick to respond.

Thanks, Neil, that's the winner!

@hoff44, that's good to know, but I didn't try that before because they said they charged $ for that and I wasn't about to pay them even more money. :)
