Can anyone tell me why certain functions are greyed out in Photoshop and therefore not available for use? For example under filters, the following are greyed out : artistic, brush strokes, pixelate, sketch and under render, lighting effects is also greyed out.
I am working in a 16 bit tiff file. I have tried making selections etc, but no luck. |

From what I remember it is because those filters cannot operate on a 16 bit file, therefore you need to convert to 8bit prior to using those filters. Wait for this to be confirmed before you do anything unrecoverable though. |

I read in a Scott Kelby photo book that when you work in 16 bit some of the functions will unusable therefore they are greyed out. I found that out when I tried playing around in 16 bit. Can't remember the exact reason just that you will lose some functionality. |

togtog you're a star! I know you advised me to wait, but I'm only working on a practice file anyway, to find my way around Photoshop. I converted to 8 bit and all the greyed out options are now available. Thank you! |
