It's an old Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song from way back in them 70's. No not the 1870's, the 1970's. ;)

That reminds me. I must get mine cut before this all starts. It's a bit long at the moment and I look like Neil.

Sheesh...

And to think-- I am one of the few conservatives in this group. ;-)

Haha! It's pretty ugly and double my size, but I will wear it for one of them just for you!

Dang! My objective was to get you to wear something half your size. Oh well, I still have 30 other suggestions. ;-)

I'm sorry to say it's not gonna wirk out for me :(

my studio is not gonna be work-ready in the beginning of august, and I feel it's good to have a time-out for a little while. 31 self portraits are not gonna help me with that.

Maybe I can get some done, but sorry, don't count on me :(

Hey does anyone mind if I post a couple here to get some advice before the side challenge acutally starts? I spent most of the last one trying to figure out lighting and my focus issues. I seem to have those issues under control with my p&s, but I'm not doing so hot with my dslr. If no one has time to take a look that's fine. I was just hoping to spare everyone!! :P

Thanks!!
Ok, this first one is with the dslr [thumb]704902[/thumb]
And this second one is with the p&s [thumb]705024[/thumb]
I know the lighting is a little different, but I don't think that's the issue with my focus. (Then again maybe it is, that's why I'm asking!)
If anyone can figure out what I'm doing wrong, or give me some ideas to try I'd greatly appreciate it!
edit to add the right picture!

Focus looks ok to me Jess. Your eyes are crisp in both shots. The P&S shot seems a bit blurry but I think that's because it's a P&S lens and that's what you get. The other looks splendid. What monitor are you using?
07/31/2008 09:16:39 AM · #116
Using my laptop. which could be another factor.
Here's the other w/the dslr [thumb]704903[/thumb] It just seems grainy and soft, which wasn't what I was going for.

Sounds like a good way to get comfy with my new monolights...I may just have to play along.

That last one looks a bit blurry. How close were you to the camera? Does it search when focusing or does it find it fast without hesitation?

Can you choose the focus points on your camera? Do you know where it is doing its focusing? Middle of viewfinder, left, right?

I can choose the focus points and it's set to center. I was about 8 ft away from the camera. The autofocus is a bit annoying, and I didn't try to manually focus, so maybe that's part of the problem.

I should have asked before. Can you post the specs for all the pics please?

Yea, I tried to load that info and everytime I did it caused an error. If I can remember off the top of my head it was like f5.6, iso 200 and 1/15.
ETA: That's off the top of my head because I'm not home right now. I realized that sounded kind of dumb, like why couldn't I just go look!

Are you all ready for tomorrow? :D

Ok, your shutter speed is too slow for hand held capturing. If you wanted to capture the ambient light then use your on board flash with a slow speed like 1/30th or even 1/15th but you need to be steady, or use a tripod. Minimum I would say is 1/60th to 1/125 of a second hand held, with no flash. If you're using a tripod then you or it moved while the image was taken. Take a shot of an inanimate object with the camera on a tripod. Post the result here so we can take a look. Make sure your object is well lit so the auto focus won't search.
