Looking through challenge results I was impressed with this one. Can't believe it scored so low. Another example of people not taking enough time when voting?

I thought it was very good as well (I understand that plastic wrap is bad for the environment - but maybe she rolled it up after use and was reusing it, right?) - but interestingly did not notice the 'recycle' from the thumb - and I think that really hurt it. I think people assumed it was a shoehorn and didn't get past the pretty face and nice figure....

How is this Green? I'm not looking for an argument, I'm asking for an answer.

By reusing plastics in an interesting way....and besides...she may be very poor and not have any clothes...and then all the nudie police would have locked her up if she tried to go into public...so the photographer may have just saved this girls life...muuuuuuuwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!

Exactly why people didn't understand - they could not get past the model and look at what she was wearing.

How is it reusing plastics? If that is cling wrap, it's coming straight off the roll ( 1st use), plus you'd only be able to use it once then throw it away, right? That seems the oposite of recycling.
To be honest i just didn't get it during voting.
Interesting portrait though.

This shows the importance of the right title.
I think this would have scored much better if the photographer would have used their comment as the title. :)

I did get past the face and figure and still think it's a shoehorn. Wouldn't tupperware be a much more "green" thing to store leftovers in than plastic wrap, which is just going to end up in a landfill not degrading?

Don't try to read people's minds. 43% of the voters gave it a 5 or less ... do you think they were ALL just offended at a woman's beauty?

I gave it a 4 because I am tired of seeing boobs used to sell just about anything! And I'm a man, man!

Oh and I don't care for the title of this thread. You seem to have jumped onto the ole 'the voters suck' bandwagon. Have a nice frustrated time at DPC. That is if you do not grow a thicker skin. ;\

I think it is a very clear example of people checking their brains at the door while voting and being way too defining of what an image 'should' be. The plastic dress is just an example of what is possibly the hottest trend today, recovered art. Having also received my first DNMC for the same reason, you can bet I will lead the voter by the nose and explain it to them in my titles from now on.

that's right, you're smart ... it's everyone else that's stupid. thanks for your new commitment to teach us ignorant voters

If you don't like it vote 1. I have no problem with that. If you don't understand it, vote 1 but don't assume it's DNMC because it doesn't fit within your narrow viewpoint.

What a spectacular, exquisite image!

DNMC, though.......8>)

I thought it was one of the best images, by far, entered into the challenge.

Titleing had a lot to do with it, but did not deserve 12 one's. This was a contender, and the DPC membership truly dropped the ball on this one.

That's the point, though......if you have to explain it, then you fell short.

plastic wrap is TERRIBLE for the environment - I'm actually surprised the image scored so well
07/07/2008 08:24:27 AM · #18
When an image can't stand on it's own to fit a challenge without the title, I have issues with it. I've seen far too many beautiful images that really didn't belong in a challenge, were basically dnmc without a title to force fit it in the challenge, and because they were certainly wow, scored higher than images that the photographer took the time to follow the theme. If given an assignment in school to bring in a red brick, and someone brings in the most beautiful piece of marble, well, they fail the assignment.

I thought this image was very cool, and noted so in my comments during the challenge, but it really is the opposite of green and didn't fit. I am finding myself giving a wide latitude in my out of the box thinking, and make comments to say just that. I gave this shot a 3, as I just could not see how it fit the assignment we were given. I get a first impression as my baseline. When I have to study too hard to understand, I look at the title. When the title is the only thing that even resembles a fit, it is not going to score well with me regardless if it is the most stunning shot I have seen.

I wish the voters would look at a challenge as an assignment. Those that go out and make it happen, well good on them and they will at least get a 5 from me. Those that don't do their assignment fail.

Yeah, I know. I make a lot of friends with my opinions here. Oh well.

Yeah, you got some nerve using facts, logic, reason, common sense, and ugly truths!

What he said. It would have been an awesome Free Study entry, but terrible for communicating environmental responsibility.

Um, not as I understand that emoticon......someone basically sticking their tongue out and/or blowing a raspberry.

I'll speak for myself, thanks.
