Hey folks I wonder if I could have your opinion?
I have just purchased an (official) battery (NB-2LH) from Amazon.co.uk for £30.00 Having received it and compared it to the original battery I am concerned that it is not an official canon battery. Sorry about the quality of the pics, but obviously I couldn’t use my SLR!

The packaging looks legit, it has the canon hologram at the top that says genuine and the print is of a good quality. It’s just the battery its self that makes me wonder.

The typeface on the top of the original battery, saying “CANON Li-ion BATTERY PACK” is in silver, on the new one it’s in white and slightly larger. And where I have marked on the images the construction of the plastic mould is different. The colour of the blue/green label is different, and the new one has a 5 digit serial number not a 4 digit number, and it is printed in a different place

Chances are its fine and it’s the design of the battery has changed in 2 years or so. I hope it’s just me being picky, just wondered what you guys thought?

Cheers;)

My guess is that it's just a minor change in design over the years. No reason to suspect foul play.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm looks fishy.... I purchased mine just the beginning of last year, and it looks like your before shots... not like the after shots... However, the blue stripe (for the used and fresh indicator) is a canon thing... soooo, I dunno, they may have just changed it... the only thing that would bring to mind fake on the new one is the ridges in the back of the battery pack... does it fit snugly into the battery compartment?

I have emailed canon and given the serial number, but will take a few days to hear a reply. So far it fits fine into the battery compartment. Will have to try it in the camera in an hour or two. Tcguru do you mean the blue sticker on the back is a canon thing? Cheers

I buy ALL of my batteries on e-bay as aftermarkets. Both cameras, both cell phones, video camera, etc. I get them so cheap I don't expect them to last as long as the original OEM, but I get three or four for the same price.

I understand that's not your issue though. If you were sold an OEM product, that's what you should have received.

Yes, it is for the battery cover with the tiny little hole shaped like a battery, you put it where you can see blue if it is charged, and flip it to grey when dead, so you have a quick visual reference :)

Replicas usually don't fit snugly into the compartment, they are loose and a bit rattly... can cause all sorts of issues and could potentially damage the camera from losing the connection often. As long as it fits snugly, I wouldn't be too concerned. Hey, if it works, it works :)

TCGuru: Only after digging my old battery cover out do i now know what your talking about. This one came with a cover but it doesnt have a little battery shape notched out of it like the one that came with my camera. Hmm i supose all i can do is wait for canon to get back to me to see if its genuine
