Story in this thread.

I'll add a few comments here and there, and I'll break the shots up by location. Any help with bird (or insect) ID's would be greatly appreciated.

Mallard Overlook and nearby road/dike:

I finally got a GBH ... kinda. He was hiding in the cattails right next to the road and I didn't even see him, Until he took off and scared the heck out of me! There are at least two bird species in the tree in the pond, can anyone ID?

Ring Neck Marsh Overlook:
There wasn't much activity right at the overlook, and I didn't feel like hiking through too much mud today, but there was a nest box with a (bluebird?) darting in and out every few minutes. I was able to use my car as a blind and get really close!

Feeder Road Trail / Cayuga Marsh:

Can you spot the Bald Eagle and nest?

This is as close as I could get. (and as close as anyone should get) Shot at 420mm on a 1.3 crop camera (300 + 1.4TC).

Route 77 / On the way home:
There are way too many trucks for this guy to be playing (well ... basking) in the middle of the road! He'll probably go right back where he was but I felt better moving him off the road.

Well, thats about it. Any and all comments welcome. I don't go birding much, but I'd like to improve in that area.

Excellent photos. Thanks for sharing - they were fun to look at. I bet you had a time choosing which ones to use and then doing all this editing. Well worth it!

Nest box birdie (going in and out) is either a tree swallow or a purple martin - I'm leaning towards tree swallow. The nest box birdie sitting on top of the box is some species of wren. The birds in the tree (3rd pic) seem to be cormorants; the bird on the bottom branch is a species of spoonbill?

1M8H4961 and -4964 and -5180 is a gray catbird; 1M8H4931 is a sparrow ;) - all sparrows look alike to me, if I heard him singing, I might be able to narrow the ID down a bit. Try a search for song sparrow and see if the details for that one matches up with your photo.

1M8H5188 and -5185 is a yellow warbler...

that's it, I'm about tapped out. :)

Thanks! I'm still working on the editing though :)

Karen, thanks for the IDs. I need to spend some time IDing all of these. I did find a website that should help a lot.
www.enature.com
You can search by zip code or region for birds and insects in the USA and Canada.
