Hi. I'm looking for some tips for anything Coastal Carolina.. I've been to most of the beaches on the coast here, the whole Grand Strand, Charleston, Kure, etc.. and I have a trip planned in November for the Outer Banks (woohoo I can't wait to take some lighthouse photos)... BUT... prior to that, I need to get out of this house! lol I've been recuperating from another leg surgery and have been shut up here for a while now.. I'm a little dodgy with the walking and standing for long periods, so I was thinking of doing some low key birdwatching, wildlife, coastal landscape type photography before my trip to the Outer Banks. I want to go somewhere coastal in the next few weeks. Ideally I would love to find a place I could roll out a blanket, sit for a few hours, relax and spot some cool birds or other wildlife with the 300mm, do some Nat Geo stuff hehe. I've thought about Hilton Head, from what I have read online there are marshes, parks and a few types of birds, but I am open to any suggestions. I just don't want to do the normal touristy beach trip where I end up sitting in the sand and taking pictures of sea gulls and piers. I would love some recommendations. Cities, Points of Interest, Websites, Parks,.. just anything! Help me plan a trip and get me out of this house sometime in July, Please! This will also be my last trip before I upgrade to the D300, so I wanna send my D50 out with a bang! Thanks =)

I'm in Cornelius! :)
We should totally meet up and take pictures sometime!

I haven't been to the Outer Banks, so I can't really help you there, but I saw that you were from NC and thought I'd ask where you were.

:)

I don't need any advice about the Outer Banks... its the other coastal areas I am interested in. I think I will have lots to shoot in the OB with the lighthouses and such. I'm looking to go somewhere else before then, a short trip.. to relax.. :)

Once my leg is healed and I am running around snapping photos I'll give ya a shout, you're not too far away :)

A couple of recommendations depending on how far south you plan to go. The following are North to South.

1.) Huntington Beach State Park - Near Litchfield Beach SC
- Atalaya castle
- Interesting architecture and realatively unspoiled beaches.

2.) You can't go wrong with Charleston, SC

3.) Hunting Island State Park - Outside of Beaufort.
- Lighthouse and interesting beaches with a lot of interesting tree growth right up to the coast.

4.) Georgetown and Beaufort
- Wonderful "old south" feel. Forrest Gump was filmed largely in this area to give you an idea of the area. Beautiful live Oaks, salt marshes, fishing/shrimping boats, etc.

Those are excellent ideas and I plan to research them all right now! I was reading a bit about Beaufort, but only as a place you travel near on the way to Hilton Head, I'll definitely look into these places, Thanks so much :)
