I have heard of it, but don't know what it is.

Can you help me find ease of mind and show and tell what chimping is?

thanks.

It's when you look at the LCD on the camera after taking a photo. You "chimp" the photo to see if it's any good.

It's when you look at your LCD after you take a shot (or many shots) and go, "ooooo oooo!" like a chimp :)

it's the act of thumbing through the pictures in your camera's LCD screen immediately after you've fired off a few shoots. Check out the photographers at a sporting event when there's a pause in the action.

I suppose it looks like chimps picking through each other's fur for bugs to eat.

The actual term for that is nit picking.

What's it called when people take shots using the LCD only? You know like most tourists do with their arms outstretched in front of them.

Exactly...

...and then it is followed up by shoving the camera lcd in the face of the person next to them, "Looky at what I got"

We've all been there... someone who shall remain nameless (not voldemort) who I have shot weddings with is a bugger for that, every shot he will come up and say "look at that"..

Every shot...

Seriously.

Every - single - shot.. :(

LOL, I've never heard of that before. I always check the LCD screen after my first shot to make sure I have the settings right. What gets me is when I shoot with my P&S, if I use the LCD screen people stand behind me and look at the screen.

i don't think chimping is such a bad thing.

in fact i use the method so often that my knuckles are starting to drag on the ground...

I use the LCD too, mostly to zoom and check my focus :)

I think the difference is the "ooo ooo" sound ;)

It seems to me that the same people who would complain about others "chimping" are the ones who submit noisy shots because they are too proud to pass the photo through photoshop to be cleaned up.

I chimp, I chimp all the time, there is no other way when photographing a group of 15 including 8 kids, to make sure everyone was actually looking at the camera, not blinking, picking noses, etc.. I don't check after every shot but every shot is checked, there is just no excuse not to be sure.

And a cute 3 year old at that!! Kind of off topic, but my dad used to call me monkey when I was a kid, so maybe it was my destiny!?
