I had a Fuji 3800 that took great pix (until my 4 year old dropped it in the toilet). I moved on to a Canon A640 and have been generally unhappy with the pictures. The flash seems over-bright and the non flash pictures are flat and dark with none of the glow and warmth I got from my Fuji. Any tips, tricks or other resources I can turn to make my Canon take better pictures?????

Thanks

i don't know about the canon p&s you're talking about, but have you tried all the settings? maybe your exposure compensation is off so all your pictures are underexposed?
if nothin helps you can always change colors and contrast in PP...

or let your 4yr old drop it in the toilet again and get yourself a fuji f30/40/50! ;)

I agree with Mephisto. Try using it under different settings. Try different environments. Really run it through the mills and if you still aren't getting the results you want or still aren't comfortable with it, take it back and get something else. I still use my A510 from time to time and I have no complaints. I was happy with it from the first time I picked it up though. It may be that the 640 just isn't the camera for you.

My 2 cents...

I had a Fuji A360 for a while, and liked it a lot. I then bought an A820 (8meg) with the larger LCD for my wife. I liked it so well that I bought a second one for myself. they are under $100 on eBa in the "Buy it now" auctions. I paid $62 total for the one that I carry everywhere now.
The Fuji shoots with higher contrast and higher saturation than the Canon, which is what you are seeing. Look in the settings on the Canon to see if you can set some user specified shooting modes. Look for "color" and "saturation" then set those to high. If that option is not available, try shooting using "cloudy day" white balance, and set exposure value (EV) at -.5 to simulate the "Fuji" color profile.
I also bought a Vivitar T25, 12meg recently. I don't like the way the menus work, and the Fuji makes better photos. The Vivitar shoots killer video though, much better quality than the Fuji, but I think that it is just a higher resolution and 25 FPS format. The Vivitar is a current model, and the Fuji A820 is one or two generations behind the current lineup.
