Somehow George Carlin never made it on my entertainment radar. His name is familiar and the time or two I heard something of his it seemed a bit crass. Was his humor similar to current day Jeff Foxworthy with more sarcasm or something?

HAHAHA no. there is no comparison between jeff and george, two completely different types of humor. it will just probably be a shock when you hear him unless you like hearing the turth about everything screamed loud and clear. also, you have to be ok with f*** this and f*** that

Go on youtube and type his name in and listen to some of his stuff about 'stuff'. It cuts right to the core of your being and human nature. It really makes you laugh at yourself. I found it interesting that so many have made tribute videos to him. I wonder if anyone is telling his loved ones "if there's anything I can do, don't hesitate to ask" (see his bit on dead people).

Worthwhile read: Carlin's NY Times obit.

“Prowling about the stage like some ever-so-slightly crazed but undeniably sharp street person, Mr. Carlin is a modern-day combination of Jeremiah and Diogenes. The anger is at once real and something of a smokescreen. Behind the curtain, operating the controls, is a deeply concerned and compassionate man, more sentimental than he would ever admit. ‘Take care of yourself,’ he shouts as he leaves the stage, ‘and take care of somebody else.’ That perceived core of intense concern enables him to connect passionately with his audiences.”

John J. O'Connor int he NY Times, 1990

Thanks for that citymars. The best obit I read so far.

I like this line.

“Scratch any cynic,” he said, “and you’ll find a disappointed idealist.”

I think this is why he was loved by many. I can relate to that line.
