|So......just by a strange turn of events, I met a lady who has an art/gift shop in Carlisle Pennsylvania, a small but bustling little town with two colleges, a fair tourist trade, and a long history. One thing led to another and she offered me some space to display and sell my work. She is friends with another woman about ten doors down, (Kind of Lucy to her Ethel) who has a gift shop/framing studio.....she's been giving me all kind of helpful guidance with marketing my work.
It turns out that this whole block is kind of an "Artist's Row", and the little community is very active in the town and is growing in leaps and bounds.
I'm having a show this coming Saturday, June 21st, and the shop is footing the bill for the refreshments and the advertising!
Last weekend, the entire block was closed to traffic, and they had a street fair with all the shop owners, restauranteurs, and some local musicians doing their thing and it was a whole beach theme, with a parade and all.
These people are serious about a whole joie de vivre, and doing what makes them smile and gives them satisfaction with their craft.
Somehow, I seem to have been adopted, and I just love it! One of the side benefits is that I met this truly extraordinary blues man and guitarist who is just the nicest guy and a real treat to hear play. He's got talent along the lines of B.B.King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Duane Allman......really, REALLY good.
I took this shot of him during the street fair, and he and his wife were so delighted that they said they wanted to use it as his promo shot.
I'm truly honored as just the association with a genuine and nice soul as this fellow is a treat in itself........it's just so wonderful to be relaxing in a garden seat listening to him play under the summer sky.
I will be doing work for the various shopowners for their publicity, and the future is looking brighter for me with the added benefit of having found some terrific new friends in the business right here at home.
Life is good!
