was just at 22 votes and 6.4091. If you do the math, my last vote was a 1! That stuff ticks me off.

Grrrr I had three different photos for this challenge, but I wasnt sure which one would go over with the voters. Should have used the one I wanted to and damn the scores.....

Ouch Steve! That stinks. Well, maybe that 1 will get scrubbed. I see we are not competing against this week - I decided to stay close to home and went for the Chemistry challenge. Hope the score rebounds for ya.

Thanks Peter. I see your chemistry shot is doing very well! way to go! I was going to do a chemistry shot (don't know why we'd enter the chemistry challenge ;), but it didn't come out as good as I had hoped. so here I am in the High contrast challenge.

well any idiot that gives me a 1 doesn't know what high-contrast is IMO *LMAO* :-D but I don't give a doodle since the voters will vote as the voters will vote and mostly it is low anyway to cut the legs out from beneath the good scores methinks *heh i'd rather give out good scores and know that however mine did- it was honestly voted upon but any that have recieved a 1? = I know someone was just trying to boost up their score* :-P

this is not one of those DNMC challenges since high contrast can be interperted many ways-

and I put extremely high contrast on my image = so HAH! 3 that ! Thbt!

mine is so high contrast, that it looks blown out lol
06/11/2008 09:30:20 AM · #83
BTW I think from now on i'm just gonna post my score like this:

X.3333

unless its a 6 or 7 *hehe*

Ok, how 'bout everyone stop hitting their update button and go vote for some pics. 9 1/2 hours after rollover we have less than 30 votes..... that's just wrong.

There are some nasty low scores being handed out this morning. Thiking that I went to bed with a 7.5 and woke up to a 6.0. Oh well, its the way it is. I figured everyone would have a different opinion of what high contrast is. Its a tough one to define to everyone.

Just finished voting, 2-10's and 9- 9's

But i have to say, I am even more confused on High Contrast than I was before!

Here's a tip.

Go to bed JUST AFTER ROLLOVER.

Then, in the morning, you'll ALWAYS wake up to a higher score!

Maybe it's me, but I reckon there's got to be more to a High Contrast challenge than just taking any old pic and boosting the contrast in PP until the highlights are all completely lacking in detail. Doesn't there?

Q.

Technically no, that would meet the challenge, however you still need a decent image (concept, subject, composition, etc.) to score well. Contrast alone won't do it.

High Contrast in my definition: Blending between high colors (example: between pitch black and bright white) are not too wide. But not too narrow either. When you crank up the contrast, blending narrows and colors become brighter. What I would like to see is bright colors in a high contrast image. Soft colors, grayish background or anything that is soft on the photo probably score less.

Of course I might be WAAAAY off, but who cares... I am not voting :P that's only what I think what high contrast is :D

He-he...sure didn't take long. :-) Not picking on you FocusPoint, just pointing out where I predicted this scores thread would go.

From high contrast question:

Not TRUE :P

I went to bed with a 6 and woke up to what most would consdier a really lousy score *LOL*

but know what? the contrast on mine is high contrast = voters just don't know how to vote on this one is my conclusion which is why I dont' care :) :-P :)

I have had a couple of comments questioning whether my pic has contrast?
Contrast: Oxford Dictionary definition :degree of difference between tones in photograph. Okay I am satisfied that my shot has different tones, I was satisfied enough to enter it after all. HeyHo to all the haters, lol, there are a couple of stunners in this challenge, which blow mine out the water anyway, it's my first challenge and I have only been using a D-SLR since last month, I know I have lots to learn, but I am still happy with my choice of pic for this,

Good Luck all anyway,

Mandy

No... You didn't go to bed JUST AFTER ROLLOVER then -- when scores are still 0.00 :)

*LOL* you know I was curious to see how diffrent my first few votes would be= had to know ;)

1st being a 3 made me laugh because it showed me that someone went thru and voted down everyone else to boost their score= the next 2 votes showed me more realistically that someone took time to vote (7 and an 8) then 6's and 4's and 5's

now my score sits as it is rather firmly.....

X.3556

and if I get 200 votes i'll share my score in full if its under a 6 or 7 - but if its not a 6 or 7 I'll continue to post X.#### -- since I don't give a doodle ! HAH so take that voters! *LOL* :)

I am that way as well. Even after 250+ challenges. And every Monday/Wednesday morning I am dead tired from "needing" to update that first hour or so. Its a bad addiction.

Almost at 50 votes. I was hoping for my average on this shot, but it doesn't look good. The more I enter these challenges the more I like side challenges. They are much more rewarding and I have learned so much!! (I think the reason is because everyone in the side challenge is looking to learn and is more accepting of criticism and sharing comments.) I encourage all to participate in a side challenge. I think I'll take a break from these until my skills rise a bit. These challenge frustrate the heck out of me.

This is my third challenge. First one was a massive DNMC. Second one was a 5.0000 at the photofinish. I had no hopes whatsoever for this challenge, so I'm pretty happy with the results so far. Am I allowed to be happy with a 5.8? :)
