Ok, I tried finding the answer in the forum archives, but no dice. I'm posting this as a suggestion, but if it exists and I just missed it let me know...

I find myself wanting to put an image in more than one collection. As an example, I have some infrared shots I took during my vacation - I'd like to make the thumbnails visible in both my Infrared collection and my Vacation collection, but from what I can tell I can only associate an image with one collection.

It's possible I can post an image twice and associate each one with a folder (maybe, I haven't actually tried this), but that doesn't help with challenge entries, and complicates the issue of comments one might receive...so even if we could do this, it likely isn't a satisfying solution.

Just to be clear - I'm not talking about associating my image with a site-wide gallery, but with collections/folders in my own portfolio.

So, has anyone else wished they could associate an image with more than one collection in their portfolio, and do you think it would be useful?

Yes, I've wanted to do that numerous times. It would be quite useful. Good suggestion!

pBase uses a similar system, where you can essentially put an alias or link to the image into any folder, but you only have to upload the file once.

Yes, the idea has been suggested before, but I'm not sure if it's practical to impliment with the current site structure/coding. However,t here is supposedly a sitewide update in the works, so now is a good time to bring this suggestion up again.

When I need to put an image in more than one collection, I simply upload it again.....it gets a new image number, but sometimes I just want one in two collections.

Yeah, see, I don't really want to go that route. I'd prefer the thumbnails to track back to the same image. And presumably, if the thumbnails just link to the same image, it wouldn't take up more space like the post-the-image-twice solution.

It's a bloomin' good suggestion (and besides, it's lunchtime. ;-))

Time is an illusion. Lunchtime, doubly so. ;)

Love the suggestion also, I often wish there was a more transparent way to sort images into more than one folder in windows.

Just a thought, what about a tag system where each person can specify a number of tags, like they currently create collections now. Then next to each image could be a list of tags and clicking those would tag the image with them.

When viewing the profile people would see a list of used tags and how many entries each contains.

I spent some time rearranging my portfolio tonight, which reminded me this suggestion needs to be revived. I would LOVE to be able to associate my images with more than one folder in my portfolio.

here's the original suggestion:

I was wishing I could do this the other day. Would be great if we would be able this in the future.
