I wasn't around back then, but I'm sure it was because American men are so much bigger, stronger, faster, and smarter. They realized that soccer is for little girls and sissies and they needed a sport that is more challenging and exciting.

That's because you're all still wasting your time playing that kid's game called soccer. No one else can play at our level yet and we wouldn't want you getting seriously injured or killed.

Also, whats up with all that padding the football players wear? is it to make their shoulders look bigger than their fat stomachs?

The padding is to reduce the number of deaths that were happening each year. Yeah, it was a sissy thing to do, but after all, we do have quite a few ex-European soccer players as American citizens.

I'd like to see any American football player keep up with a football player. They'd be out of breath in a few minutes. And as for smart, I don't know where you're from, but football players aren't exactly known for their smarts, just look at the scandals over academic achievements, or lack thereof, among college American football players. Bigger, well, yes, all that time spent at the All-You-Can-Stuff-Down-Yer-Gullet buffet does have some payoff. Stronger? Nope, 2007 World's Strongest Man is Mariusz Pudzianowski, from Poland. In fact, over the past 23 years, an American has won the title only once.

That's because the teams from the other countries fall asleep out of boredom. Baseball is only slightly more exciting than watching grass grow. If the grass has been fertilized recently, it's a toss up.

As opposed to the Europeans who play rugby without pads and with blood, stopping only in the case of a severed artery. If an American football player sees his own blood, play stops immediately, he faints, then gets carried over to the sideline for a band-aid and pep talk (from his mommy via cell phone if at all possible) and then gets sent to the locker room for his massage and pedicure.

In all seriousness, Portugal obviously look good. As defending champions, we'll be taken more seriously and things will be tougher.

Italy is in my opinion the favourite, despite Canavaro's bad luck...they have so many class defenders...

But it's all wiiide open... I will place a few outsider bets...

Yeah, joking aside, it is wide open, and fair play if greece win again! I shant be complaining. The name of the game is to score more goals than the opposition...whoever does that must surely deserve to win, simple!

Winning euro 2004 must have given greek football a massive boost, eh!? Lets hope to see olympiakos and panathanikos make in-roads into the champions league!

ooooooooooooooooooh my! What did you say!!! :p

HOLLAND FIRST!!!! :P

Actually I am not going to watch games of Holland. During this time it is so quiet on the streets that I will take my motorcycle for a blast. During the last part of the tournament I will be in Russia, so I will go with the flow there. They are much more fun to drink with anyway. :)

Please don't say the 'o' word in any threads I'm in Mango.... Hopefully my team Panathinaikos will start showing in CL...again...

It gave the national team a good boost and a lot of players are playing in foreign teams...a few Greeks for Benfica for example. On squad level, the teams have seen better days on a european level.

That should be a trip Azrifel ...rooting for Russia, if Greece doesn't pass...

Congrats to POrtugal on the win. I am happy with that on two levels... first the classic greece-turkey rivalry, and second its good for easy teams to make it to the next round as our opponents ;)

Dear Louis! as much as i admire (and agree with) your views, thoughts and stuff in general i have to say that your statement above can be easily put in category called "impossible" :-)

Heh... :) Yeah well you're right of course, I think Austria will be out rather quickly. Just hoping that Croatia's uneven play will be very uneven today. ;)

I wish you were right. We here in Poland are quite dissapointed, but we liked the match. It was painful that both goals were shot by the Polish guy.

Croatia was great in eliminations. They may win with every team in our group. I think Portugal may win this Euro from what I saw yesterday.
