I did a rather stupid thing this morning.

Just before leaving for work, I couldn't find my mobile phone (my room is a mess), so I went downstairs, picked up the cordless "landline" phone, dialled my mobile, and went back upstairs to locate where the ringing was coming form and therefore find the mobile. This I did, and I put the landline phone in my pocket intending to put it back on the charging cradle when I went downstairs. But I forgot, and the long and the short of it is I've brought it to work with me.

A daft thing to do but not the end of the world. But I thought I'd share, and throw it open: what stupid things have you done lately that you're brave enough to admit to? Feel free to share :-)

Gee my stupidest thing was photography related.
Set up my tripod in February, shot 6 pics, went to walk around the tripod and fell hard: fractured the leg big time.
Talk about stupid!

I realized a stupid thing yesterday. One of my neighbors ( a snowbird from Canada) left one of her large flowering planters with me. Every year when she heads back up North she entrusts me with her plants, and I do my best to water them and keep them happy until she wants them back! I've been tending to the planter for about a month, and it was full of beautiful, flowering plants. Yesterday I was patting myself for doing such a great job thus far---all the plants and flowers were looking great. I was watering, and suddenly took a closer look and those beautiful flowering plants were plastic! I realized there was one or two real plants, and the rest of the planter was fake. I wonder if the fact I nearly killed the planter last year had anything to do with the fake switch...anyway, I laughed so hard when I realized the truth.

LOL thats funny made me laugh, I've not been doing enough of that lately it seems.

I was just reminded of a dumb thing in a previous thread I did.

I made a home made soft box about 2 weeks ago from instructions off of good old trusty google! Needless to say the pics were great ... I forgot I left the damn thing on could smell smoke about 15 minutes later while sitting at the comp looking through pics I took using it. I ran back into the other room to discover the wax paper I used just catching alight!

Wow, this couldnt have come at a better time. My friend emailed me this morning and said.....

"Oh, speaking of retarded! We got an RSVP for the wedding yesterday, and you know the line that says M_________ ? Well, on that line, it said "I don't even know what this line is for". And they put down that 2 people are coming. Nice to know 2 people are coming, but it would be even better if I knew who the f*** it was!"

It was me who sent it, LOL!

While my list of stupid things is a bit long to list here on this blog, I can share my latest one.
During a recent day off here in Rocky Mountain National park I decide to check into the stories of a very large porcupine that lives in a fairly accessable area close by. After searching for awhile, with no luck, I just went about taking flower photos with another camera. Later in the evening and headed home I saw the porcupine crossing the road and heading into another part of the forest. I was so excited, that I grabbed the camera I had been using a couple of days before and started shooting. I got REALLY excited when the animal started "posing" for me, on rocks, old logs and even snow, it was GREAT!! When I got back to the car the wife wanted to see them so I turned on the review feature - all 20+ shots were black. I shot them all in manual mode with a 1/2000 shutter speed (left over from the "sun in the frame" challenge I was shooting a couple days prior).
I guess it was similar to the days of leaving the lens cap on in my film days LOL, and to think - One of the BIGGEST reasons for me going digital was for the review features!!LOL, at least the wife thought it was funny!!

And that's the reason I leave my review screen on.

All great stories guy/gals, I do stupid things all the time but can't remember any right now. I'll post something when I do it.

Well mine wouldn't have been as stupid had it gone as planned...

One night while driving from Illinois to Kentucky I stopped and got a whopper from BK...I ate the fries first since I figured they would be worse when cold. When I got to the whopper, I found out I was wrong, it tasted nasty. I put it down and continued on my drive, a couple minutes later I decided I was really hungry and tried the whopper again...nope still yucky (like it would have gotten better as it got colder lol). So while driving I pushed the power window button and rolled down the passenger window, took the sandwich in my hand and 1, 2, 3 chucked it out the window....well at least the partially opened window. Yep, I had half a whopper smeared across my window, one bun laying on the front seat, and the meat in my back seat. I just shook my head and laughed at myself till I found a place to pull over and clean it up. I did take a picture with my cell phone but not sure where it is now. I still have flash backs when I pull up to the BK drive through lol.

the stupid thing i did could have gotten me killed
it was 6 months ago but it outshines anything since
i was sick with a fever and took a shortcut home across the train tracks
just as i arrived a train slowed and stopped right in my way. i was dizzy and frustrated so i sat on the ground for 15 min waiting for the train to leave. i decided it wasn't going anywhere anytime soon and actually climbed on top of a low car to jump over it (WHY?!)
that's when the train started moving and i had to jump
those things have a heck of a kick start
my heart has never beat so fast
sooooo stupid of me

My moment of stupidity:

Went to take portraits of a family at their country home. Remembered to bring bulbs, a backup camera, extra batteries, my laptop (to show proofs on the spot), my flashes, my lights, backdrop stand, backdrops, and I even brought my own chair.

I take the photos (family was GREAT!), changed a bulb or two, and broke everything down and cleaned up. Get set up in the kitchen for proofing and realize that I HAVE NO WAY TO GET THE PHOTOS ONTO THE COMPUTER!!!!

My bag had gotten damp so I took everything out of it to allow it to dry. Left my sync cord AND my card reader sittin on my kitchen counter!!! DOH!!!

I ended up collecting everyones' e-mail address (there were about 20!) and e-mailing the photos out later. I felt like a dunderhead! Lesson learned!!!

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my cell phone into a vat of cottage cheese.

The following week (at the same location) I pulled out of a parking spot and turned the car into a short post that was sticking up to protect a flower bed. It tore the he## out of the car and did an incredible amount of damage considering the fact that I was hardly moving.

I let my girlfriend cut my hair in 9th grade.

The finished product bore no small resemblance to a Mon Chi Chi doll.

The mockery began almost immediately.

If I had simply gone to a real barber to get it fixed, my girlfriend would have been angry. So, I wore a hat except when she was around. After a few days of ridicule from everyone who saw my new 'do, she admitted that her creation looked goofy and went with me to the barbershop where with a few strokes of the clippers, it was all undone.

Since I just did this moments ago, I knew I had to log in and post it here...

I was just going through and post-processing a shoot I just did for my wife of some of her altered art (she uses me as her personal photographer for her artist blog and portfolio...) and I was getting very disappointed that the shots weren't nearly as sharp as I expect they would be. Even after really heavy adjustments, almost every shot I took still looked soft. I was scratching my head wondering why... Pretty fast shutter on everything, although they *were* handheld. Used my 50mm at 2.2 and even smaller; that lens usually blows my mind how sharp it is... Thought I had the focus really tight when I took them -- why are are so soft now? Every...single...ONE!

Then, out of habit, I reached up to adjust my glasses...... And poked myself in the face, since I DIDN'T HAVE MY @#%@ GLASSES ON.
